Looking for The Cheapest Monthly 4G SIM Only Plan

Hey guys, my pre-teen daughter got her first mobile phone for Christmas this year and I need to find a month-by-month SIM only plan for her.

I'm only really concerned about her having access to make phone calls and texts in emergency situations - as any data allowance she's given will only get wasted on YouTube anyway.

Any recommendations for the absolute cheapest way to get out of this month-to-month? I'm not really interested in any "50% off for first three months" promotions, I have no interest in jumping around between telcos every couple of months…

Front runners are so far either the $19 Aldimobile plan or the Aldimobile Pay As You Go plan.

Thanks!

    Flip Mobile: $4 a month for 100 SMS/MMS, 100 minutes and 500MB data: https://www.flipconnect.com.au/mobile

I rate that plan for seniors but pre-teens will consume more than 100 SMS per hour unless you're an iOS family. CBA/More is doing 12GB $4 per month (12 months) for qualifying homeowners. Otherwise why not get a 365 day prepaid and port out annually?

If you're willing to pay $19 per month then maybe she might want to pay $2 more per month for the cheapest Belong plan ($21 per month) which will at least give her unlimited data at 1 Mbps if she goes over the 7GB per month.

Aldi PAYG will be expensive if she turns data on so I can't imagine that would work.

    • Sounds tempting - though that CIS notes "not available for new sign ups" for that plan.

That means you need to activate on a higher plan then drop down after that.

        • That had never occurred to me!

@LeifAlbor: Yep so once the account is set up you can change to the $21 plan straight away so it's ready for the next payment date.

  • I'd spend the $6 extra and get Felix mobile 25gb which has unlimited data at 1.5mbps - it may be useful to have the data for maps, device locator, or an extra way to get in touch in an emergency situation

Circles.life has a $15 monthly plan but you're billed for data overage

Lycamobile has a $15 plan, not sure what happens for data overage

If it's really only for emergencies $13 total for 6 months https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/883607

Otherwise one of the $99-$110 yearly plans from Kogan, Catch etc

The Catch Connect plan is currently $120 for a year, so $10 a month

    • Another option: Kogan Small 140GB $119, same price as Catch Connect 120GB

      • Kogan is Vodafone I believe, so reception is way worse (for us) but more data

  • Woolies, link to EDR and get 10% back every month from bigw and Woolworths each. Maybe try for a month to see if coverage is good for your area
