Replacement New or Used Laptop Needed - Budget Sub $700

My current home use Windows laptop just died on us and from the forums I can see that the ThinkPad is a good solid option… although the gen 2 one is a little old for me

The laptop will be used to general home use, streaming, office, downloading etc.

I came across this on eBay and it seems too good to be true:

Does anyone have an opinion on this or something similar? I am aware the specs on this one is over the top

That’s a very good deal, and seller appears to be a regular laptop seller with a spotless record.

Have a look at the Dell Outlet store - https://www.dell.com/en-au/outlet

From a quality supplier and come with a 1 year warranty. Some are "as new" but over your price. Others have scratches and dents and most are refurbished by Dell.

    • thanks I'll take a look

New Laptop Needed … seems too good to be true:

That laptop is not new. But still seems too good? X-series are great portable laptops. But if only to use at home, you care less about battery and toughness, and more about screen size?

Dell Outlet for that budget will only give you a crappy Inspiron, with an i3-11 CPU that is the same benchmark as an 8th-gen i5, regularly seen here ex-lease.

    • sorry my bad- I'll edit my post, it should say replacement.

I'm not fussed if it's used or new as long it's decent

      • $700 used, for home, your problem is too many options. You could get a good ex-lease for half that.

Is this just to be used on the desk, or would you like something lightweight to use on the couch, or bed even? Maybe a 2-in-1? Touch-screen?
(When I call the Inspiron "crappy", I mean cheap build compared to Lattitude etc, but if just used at home, that may not be an issue.)

        Merry Christmas!

        • thanks for the follow-up questions, appreciated.

it will be used around the house including couch and go on holidays so a good build is more attractive

no 2 in 1 for me, the screens are too big - I had an early gen surface and gave using it as a tab

so I think I should be looking at a much cheaper refurbished Lenovo ThinkPad T14 gen 2 as suggested several times by the masses on here?

  • may be try new snapdragon laptops now ?

  • T14 gen 2. Built well. Will last you

  • I bought an "opened unused" Latitude 7400 laptop (i5 8365U) from BNEACT for under $350 minus 17% ebay coupon. It looked completely unused. The next week they dropped it by $100 and I bought another one for family. At that price, it was a no brainer.
