Is the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra Worth $1300?

I am able to get the S24 Ultra for $1300.74 through the Samsung education store, 5% off Samsung shop first time user and $190 trade-in discount.

Is it possible for the S24 Ultra to get even lower as the S25 ultra is coming out next month, or should I just buy it now?

I am curious, because on the Samsung shop app, it says that the 5% discount is ending 31 Dec 2024.

  • Ozb would say wait till new release but its your money and how bad you needs it 😅

    • Correct. The fact that he asked on forum means he already set his mind to buy it.

If you're looking for ATL it's definitely nkt it, I got mine from the jbhifi deal and ended up paying a little over $1000 and got a $300 gift card. As a phone it's great and one of if not the best released this year.

    • When was this deal for jbhifi?

      • Finished yesterday.

        • Was it a port in port out deal?

      • Was this deal posted on ozbargain?

  • Absolutely not.

That for $350 will do everything as good as the $1300 alternative, for 90% human in this world that has a sensible mind.

You're generally right, although it does lack in camera capability, processing power and longevity.

Not everything has to be about best price/performance though. You can also get $150 phones that do most of what the 50 Neo does and say that the Neo is a luxury as well.

  • Technology only ever goes down in value - if you need it, just buy it.

Assume that a phone lasts for 3 years, if you use it for an average of 3 hours per day, this is 3,285 hours of service. This is less than 40c per hour of use. Very few other things give you the same level of entertainment for 40c per hour.

What did people do with their time before they had a mobile phone to play with for 20% of their waking hours.

Yet how can they justify even $1,000 for a phone these days?

I think because most people get them with a plan and so the real cost is hidden

  • No

  • some say s25 will be cheaper upon release. maybe wait for the 22nd of January?

  • How does the trade in work. Do you post your old mobile before receiving the new device? I prefer to have the old for a while before handover to ensure I havent missed anything in replicating the setup.

As great as the S24 Ultra is (probably the best phone available), I'd be tempted to wait and see what the S25 Ultra brings to the table.

  • By deal stacking the S25 ultra will almost certainly end up working out cheaper as a preorder. Sign up to the Samsung marketing list.

    • What deals do you normally get with preorders?

      • Samsung preorder deals are legendary, particularly if you rate the guaranteed minimum trade in credit, extra store credit, extended Samsung care and double memory. See the preorder deal for the S24, for example.

Alternatively, there were also plenty of store credit, trade in deals and the like going around at stores such as Harvey and JB the same time, which might have suited some people better.
