Heavy, ugly, uncomfortable by comparison with truly good comfortable boots. Sheep are for shearing 😂

    • "I ain't shearing my sheep with no-one!"

Not worth the money anymore, debatable whether they were worth the prices they charged in the past 10 years prior to the quality dive

This video sure has done its damage. Here are the main points that have used to refute the video previously:

      • He compares two different boots: Classic Craftsman and Comfort Craftsman. The recipe has not changed in either of them. Yes the Classic Craftsman is built better but there's a reason why the Comfort Craftsman is more popular (it's comfort).
      • He argues the boot is expensive and it is but it's cheaper here, and here you should never be paying full price. You should never pay more than around $450 AUD for a pair of Craftsman boots. At that price, I would consider it fair. These can be had for even cheaper than that. Especially since point 3:
      • The boots are made in Australia, manufacturing here is not cheap. They're a cultural icon and are popular for a reason.

Are they worth the money anymore? That's up for each person to decide on their own but that video is not applicable to the discussion.

      • Fair point re he should have just cut the same boot as he did previously for most accurate comparison.
That being said they are both (classic and comfort) sold at the same price and marketed as similar value, one should realistically expect similar quality, not the guts of a $200 boot because it’s more comfortable (ie thinner leather upper).
You don’t have to scroll far through the 2.4K comments to find anecdotal comments from Aussie blokes and ladies who have owned old and new versions and all reports are of a downward slide in quality, especially since each of the two takeovers.
Yes, Australian cultural icon and made in Australia, this shouldn’t be a blanket excuse for higher price due to higher costs. Australian made should mean better built and therefore more expensive not more expensive jus cuz. Otherwise just make a better boot overseas and sell it here for less.
I own a pair of comfort and a pair of classic ( both from pre twiggy takeover). They are nice boots and leather looks fantastic when looked after.

The only difference between Classic and Comfort Craftsman should be the insole and outsole. Should the Comfort Craftsman be cheaper? I'd sure like it to be, but I guess that's just not how they're running their business. Thinner leather upper referenced in the video I'm sceptical of, since that too isn't the same across his comparisons. He's comparing dark tan yearling leather (old video) to some other pull-up leather (new video).

Has stuff gone down in quality while going up in price? Almost certainly. But what hasn't? My opinion is: if you want RMs, you'll just have to put up with it. But if you just want a pair of boots, there are plenty of options out there.

Fair enough, and that is what some other brands are doing. I personally think RMs boots are good quality but have kind of poor QC, mine are a bit wonky in some areas. But I think in the video he was comparing the RMs made in Australia to boots made in Mexico, not boots made in the USA for example which would be his equivalent.

I've got two pairs of Comfort Craftsmans. I don't regret buying mine since I wanted the specific look.
