Unless you have a Barra T, then HPR10 is better.

$43 at Repco last month, better off waiting for a better deal

    • Yes, that would have been a deal

  • The reviews on this are great. I don't know better because I just get any $30 5W-40 mineral to put into my old Falcon, but how do people objectively judge an oil to be superior and therefore valued >$60-70?

    • Likely due to its longer life, being able to go 15k on an interval without the oil breaking down

      • Look for your car's oil specs and if it matches then you are good to go.

    • +2

It's mostly marketing, unless someone has done a used oil analysis on many types of oils in the same engine and compared the results.

HPR5 used to be on the official MB 229.5 list for many years.

That is a very stringent test to pass, and includes some of the most expensive oils on the global market.

It costs a lot of money to be officially on the list each year, so I guess it became not worth it.

But the oil is still the same and the test is still the same. So at least HPR5 actually put their money where their mouth is, rather than other companies "claiming" MB229.5 without ever proving it.

        Why does MB 229.5 matter?

        • That is a very stringent test to pass, and includes some of the most expensive oils on the global market.

  • +7

These are often on sale for less than $50.

    • yeah, these get their price slashed by half throughout the year. This is a hard pass

  • +3

I’d wait until repco puts it on sale. Usually around $40

Why would this be listed as not suitable for a Mitsubishi Pajero NT 3.2 diesel?

    • +2

      Mitsubishi Pajero NT 3.2 diesel?

    • Penrite site says it's perfectly fine for a Pajero 3.2

How do I know which oil to be used in my car? I have a Subaru Liberty 2013. Will the manual tell that information?

    • +1

The manual will have all the specs.

    • Put your vehicle details into the supercheap auto web page under "My Vehicle" and select your vehicle from list.and theN save ……IT WILL INDICATE WHAT SUITS YOUR VEHICLE.

      • Thank you.
Sorry for my dumb question - this is going to be my first DIY oil change.
Do I need to change the filter as well? I've never seen a post about oil filter on OzBargain.
        Thanks.

        • +1

Generally the oil filter gets changed every service. Some cars, such as Honda only need it every second service. Check your service book.

Price is SO far away from $30.

You should be aiming for about $8 per litre for HPR5. Wait for sales and stockpile. It's usually on sale sub $10/l about every 3 months.

  • Need some for my jeep but definitely not paying this price!

  • Isn't this normal price?

  • +1

Timing wise I need to do an oil change tomorrow so this will be the deal to go with, not super cheap but ok and a trustworthy oil.

    • -1

      No, it is Supercheap

  • Even the 7L version at $86 at repco and autobarn represents better value.
