Thanks for recommendation.
I bought it from the good guys

Not offering any opinion or recommendation. Only you know whether it is suitable for you (i.e. whether you need 4K @ 60Hz or not).
The USB-C to HDMI Cable 1.8M you mentioned also supports up to 4K @ 30Hz.
thanks. I would pass on 30hz meh!
The 1.8m model is better value tbh for $10

That's a cable, not an adapter.
Different product with a different purpose.
1.8m is not equal to 0.15m champ.
@Wiadro: How many people would want to carry a 1.8m cable in their bags? That is what small items like this are for. Basic concept.
@shxhshzhz: I dunno, you could use for other things like me, I’m getting the 1.8m to connect my iPad to my TV….. your use case maybe different to mine.
@Wiadro: Hence, different product, different purpose. No misinformation in that.
@shxhshzhz: Both do the same thing convert usb-c to hdmi. One is 15cm one is 1.8m
Fundamentally the same product other than the length hence my first comment
No champ they are the same product other than the length…
Fundamentally the same product other than the length…
There is another difference besides length:
* The shorter cable has a Female HDMI socket, so requires an additional HDMI cable which you could easily buy for $5 (so $10 total).
* The longer cable has a Male HDMI plug so can be plugged in directly, and does not require an extra cable. (also $10 total).
The shorter cable arguably gives more flexibility since you can plug in different lengths of cable?
@oz-dave: L O L. Nice pickup dave. Thank you for being competent enough to understand the basic purpose of this adapter.
Hence, different product, different purpose.
@oz-dave: Good pick up I didn’t notice the hdmi end.
So could I plug them into each other to have a usbc extension cable?
So could I plug them into each other to have a usbc extension cable?
Not 100% sure if you are joking or asking a serious question ;-)
But, in answer to your question; You could plug the short cable into the long cable from a mechanical perspective, but I would be shocked if you were actually able to use the "mutant" cable as a full featured USB-C to USB-C cable.
@oz-dave: Not a tech savvy person but I was wondering with the male and female versions. Basically the $10 one allows a laptop (with USB C port) to only need that one cord to connect to a monitor while the $5 will ALSO require an HDMI to HDMI cable?

Yes, exactly right, assuming your laptop, desktop PC, tablet or phone has the appropriate USB-C functionality.
@shxhshzhz: Me!
You never know when you are going to be just short for some strange reason.
I appreciate you sharing this. I don't really like the idea of carrying two cables when I could carry one.
great. need one
What exactly does this do or why do I need it? And which one is recommended
Could I plug this into my Nintendo Switch to work on another tv?
No. But you should look up the covert dock by genki.
Tentative yes, I am not sure how fussy the Switch is but normally you would want power pass through.
No, they use a proprietary system. There are some unofficial third party adapters available, but come with risk
I don't think so, the Switch needs a dedicated dock. I believe it would work with a Steam Deck though.
Our Switch works with an adapter I bought at Kmart. It has HDMI and needs USB-C power input but works just like the official dock
Do you know which one you have? Thanks.
Noob question - if my laptop does NOT have USB-C display port, this won't work, right?
Yes, you need a USB-C port to use a USB-C adapter.
Are you a professor of usb-c?
Not a professor, just someone who understands what an adapter does. It’s a niche talent, I know
Yes, you need USB-C port that supports DisplayPort Alt-Mode in order to use this. If you are after one that doesn't require that, look for one with DisplayLink support.
I don’t have a laptop, this won’t work right?
Thanks OP
Can these be used for android screen mirroring from a phone onto tv?
I got the Monster 1.8m USB-C to HTMI today and its useless for mirroring IPhones screen. I tried both 15Pro and 16 Pro and the image on TV is distorted.
Will go back and return it.
Yes, except not all phones support this. I was very disappointed to find my Pixel phone doesn't.
I am also looking for something like this to connect my android phone to car AV system via usb c. Link usb to av
Anyone know of a solution to make this work? Ideally uses screen mirroring without additional app if possible?
Or if there is some kind of intermediary box that solves this would work too.
Thanks in advance
You can buy the same or similar (unbranded) adapter on AliExpress for around $3–4.
In the interests of local warranty/CGA, and not waiting two weeks for delivery, I’m buying one of these.
Is it HDMI 2.0?
Why was this negged?
Would this work as a wired option for screen sharing on Android phones to a tv? Recently tried a usb C to hdmi adapter and got a high powered usb error message on the phone (essentially the hdmi adapter requires a power source which the phone cannot provide).
Does it give audio ?
