Low price on this portable monitor from Lrtzcbi which is different from others in this price range due to having both a touchscreen AND a full sized HDMI port instead of the usual hideous Mini-HDMI. Plus there's a full sized USB port that can be used for a keyboard/mouse.

The 14" model features an IPS touchscreen display with 1920x1080 resolution, 60Hz refresh rate, 16:0 aspect ratio, 300cd/m² brightness, 100% sRGB colour gamut, 1000:1 contrast ratio, inbuilt kickstand, VESA mounting, dual speakers and weighs around 544g.

For connectivity there's two USB-C ports for display and power, PD passthrough charging, HDMI, USB and headphone jack.

I knew someone was going to bring up the reviews without checking them properly first. Only one review is for this model (14") and the criticism about one port working for touchscreen is correct. You need to plug in one of the USB-C ports for data transfer, as HDMI is for video output and that alone isn't enough for any of these touchscreen monitors.

        link?

        • +2

Could be this one. It's Ingnok and it's $50 off.

          • +1

@pyreusk: thank you. just an FYI to the earlier commentor, this one is not touch screen.

            • +3

              @santomaharaj: Yeah but it’s JAPANESE fhd non-touchscreen.

Edit: comments below say it’s Chinese posing as Japanese. Oh dear to the person that bought the inferior product

              • @andresampras: Yeah, I wonder how affordable a Japanese screen of this size is. I reckon something really made there would cost a bit more than the stuff we can find on AliEx/Amazon for cheap.

That being said, I do have a cheap Chinese screen from AliEx and I realised just the other day that it has mysteriously stopped working by itself :(

It was a simple one without a case though, one of those exposed PCB ones with the ribbon cable visible and all. More than likely one of the kids had a bit of a play with it and then killed it, OR I killed it myself when I touched the PCB the last time I used it! The screen was originally for a project that involved a 3D printed case, which I never ended up designing or printing lol - so the whole debacle was my fault and has nothing to do with country of origin tbh

Where does it say it’s made in Japan? No way a Japan made electronic product gets this cheap. I looked through their website and only thing I can find is an office address in Japan, I’ll bet it’s just a Chinese shell company that mainly operates in Japanese market.

      • -1

The Japan made one is $110 after the coupon.

        • +1

No way at that price will be MADE IN JAPAN

        • the $110 one says "made in China" on the back.

      • +15

Ingnok is a trademark of "SHENZHENSHI Ingonk Innovation Co,.LTD". Besides the obvious typo it's definitely a Chinese company.

    • +1

The only one I would attempt to buy is from the brand "Ingnok" on Amazon because it's made in Japan.

Is it really made in Japan?

      • +3

        Nope. Just marketed there

        • +5

The marketing is coming from inside the thread.

    interesting amazon review:

Size is good, works off laptop USBC only, and all cables included, but the colour reproduction is very washed out and poor at all brightness levels. Looking off angle and playing with backlight you can see this is an LED panel (as it says all over the box) and not an IPS panel, which is says nowhere on the device or the box.
The advertising / description on amazon is incorrect, this is not an IPS device

Reviewed in Australia on 23 January 2024

      Size Name: 15.6"

This deal isn't on the 15.6" model.

      • saw that too. also saw another review that claims the touchscreen developed ghost touches. just something to be aware of

        • +1

Yep a video for the same model. If this one ends up with the same, praise Amazon free returns and probably bonus credit if you ask Amazon live chat nicely.

    • +5

Ignore that review. Anyone claiming a backlight type (LED) determines the panel type (IPS), is speaking from their butt.

Could still be junk, but that review draws nonsense parallels.

  • Thank you, I am going to give it a test, I essentially just need it to display the timeline on premiere pro for my MacBook Air 13.3. So if the touchscreen is terrible, id return it, otherwise, it should do the trick.

    • +1

What about using a streamdeck for this? Are you trying to move to specific points along the timeline?

      • +1

In all honesty, I typically edit on a 24" screen and didn't realize I'd miss all that space on the MacBook Air 13.3". So when out on the road I just need more space more than anything.

        • Fair makes sense :).

  • Man these are getting so cheap , would be handy to have out on the road with me. So annoying trying to go back to a single screen after dual screening for literally decades…

Chinese brand naming method: smash your hands on the keyboard. Done.

  • How does this deal compare to this? https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/881484

And can this be used vertically?

    • That one is 15.6" without touchscreen and this is 14" with touchscreen. This has an inbuilt kickstand while the other has a case with a kickstand.

They can be used vertical but you'd need a stand for it. The included one in this is only for horizontal use.

      • Thanks, i need a vertical one so wont be getting this one.

Looks exactly like one of those widely rebranded Chinese generics. I bought two in the past, one cracked in transit and the USB port of the other stopped working after a few days. Returned both to Amazon for a refund.

All of the portable monitors I get from AliExpress has better build quality than this, so YMMV.

    • +1

Which one have you got from aliexpress?

      • +1

Mostly ZSUS monitors and one from MUCAI.

  • +2

All these brand names that no one can pronounce 🤷‍♀️

  • I always wonder with these portable monitors on whether they support HDCP or not for you to use it to stream protected content such as Netflix/PrimeVideo in HD. Or for you to connect your firestick or chromecast to it.
I think the current assumption is yes but you never know until you try them.

  • Is this suitable as a display/monitor for CCTV?

  • +1

Interested in this one as a dashboard for home automation. Will this work well with a rpi for platforms such as home-assistant or hubitat say?

    • +2

This is my interest as well, I have an old Intel mini pc stick thing lying around, was thinking this would make for a handy wall mounted PC without needing kb/mouse.

      • yes i am the same. Would like to replace my old ipad 2 which has become problematic with not reading the dashboard correctly. I had another old samsung note 8" tablet which has become bloated due to the battery - so was thinking to go for a simple touch screen without the battery component.

    • that's what I'm thinking about as well. Although an Android tablet is another consideration.

      • I was also looking into using an android tablet - the Samsung A9 seems to have good price - but was a bit weary if the battery will swell (or not).

        • +1

Samsungs have had a "protect battery" feature for a while now which limits the maximum charge to 80%. That should greatly delay or prevent swelling batteries. You have to manually turn on the feature though.

          • @eug: My Lenovo M10 Gen3 has that too. I tried it for a bit, and turned it off. Should I use it?

            • @wisdomtooth: If you don't need the full battery runtime, limiting it to 80% will extend the lifespan of the battery. But if you regularly charge it to full and use it till 20%, you probably want the extra runtime.

I leave it on on my Lenovo and turn it off when I want longer battery life, e.g. before a long flight or trip, then turn it back on when I get home.

          • @eug: Thanks. I didnt know about this feature. Does this apply to all Samsung newer tablets like the A9?

  • anyone got a link for suitable screen protectors for these monitors?

  • Any views on getting a portable monitor to connect to a phone instead of a tablet, if only to be used for media consumption (i.e. as a glorified portable TV).

  • Where does it say it supports PD passthrough? Any details on wattage? It'd be great to have a device plugged into this using USB-C powered by the display, with a single power cable going to the monitor.

  • Ordered one to use as small dakboard. Thanks

  • Can I cast from my android phone to this or run a USB cable from phone to it?

    • Casting requires a CPU running an OS (i.e. a smart device — remember when we used to call phones smart phones?).

You can connect your phone to it, but unless your phone does video out from its USB-C port — most don't — nothing will come out of it. I'm after the same thing — replacing a tablet with a portable monitor connected to my phone — and it seems I'm out of luck with my Xiaomi POCO M5s.

      • You can run strcpy on a raspberry pi or some other mini PC connected to the screen and plug your phone into that to mirror the screen and control it from this touchscreen. According to strcpy documentation it forwards multi touch and gestures to the device too, not sure if this touchscreen supports multi touch though?

        • Isn't all touchscreen multitouch at this day and age?

"Plug" as in cast, or physically plug with a cable? If the phone can be directly connected to a RPi, why wouldn't you connect it directly to the monitor instead?

          • +1

@wisdomtooth: You said your phone doesn't do video-out over USB-C so you need another device to do it with strcpy that uses the android debugging features.

No not every device is multi touch when using remote streaming software some software only supports single touch.

            • @Agret: Ah, right! And do you mean casting, or a cable connection?

  • So far, very happy with the limited time I've spent testing it. I don't have a need for accurate colour, or precision touchscreen. But purely as a second monitor, so far, so good.

edit: Note that I'm not saying this is bad at those things, I just have a need for more screen real estate.
