  • How typical. Controller died the other night and assumed no deal for a while so paid $94 at Officeworks (w/ Big W price beat)

      Is this a good deal?

    • How did your controller die?

      • Didn’t die but the left thumb stick rubber came loose and started spinning. Tried glueing it back in place but didn’t hold well enough, lasted 3 years since so was happy to get a nice new black one

You can get new thumbsticks for only a dollar or so from AliExpress if you ever want to replace it. It's super easy to pop the screws out to open the shell up and the thumbsticks just slide up off the joystick mechanism and then put new ones on and it is back in action. At least you will have a spare controller to use as well as the shiny new black one.

@XVX: This. My controller started getting stick drift and I watched a couple of youtube videos on how to take it apart. Cleaned it out with rubbing alcohol and its good as new. Was gonna buy a new controller if I couldn't fix it, but it was surprisingly quite easy.

            • +1

@Tyoson: Yeah, it is such a simple process to just give the potentiometers a clean and it almost always ends up getting rid of any drift issues. With the amount of people who just go out and buy new controllers, it makes me wonder how many perfectly fine controllers end up in storage as broken or just discarded to landfill.

@XVX: The same people who throw out perfectly fine android tablets because "the screens broken" when its usually just the glass screen protector.

3/4 controllers I own now have intermittent drift issues. Frustrating for the price we paid. Shouldn’t happen at this price point.

If it helps, I had bad drift issues on my launch controller, but opening it up and blasting compressed air through the thumbstick joint seemed to have solved it. Been using it for months again now without drift so far.

      • Will give it a go 👍🏻 TY

        • Theres also youtube videos on how to clean the contacts with rubbing alcohol. It fixed my stick drift completely.

Currently have 3 main dual sense controllers (launch which has stick drift, a purple one I got not long after I got the PS5 console itself AND another white dual sense controller that I used some excess Telstra rewards points due to them going to expire if I didn't) as well as two 30th anniversary controllers (1 that will be used eventually and the other that joins the 20th anniversary PS4 controller as a display piece). Yet I might pounce and buy another (as my two MAIN controllers that are in use are bound to get stick drift soon) as $85 is far better than $119 - $124.

I want the PS5 30th anniversary controller :( Been trying to get that since it was announced.

    • Bit late now, you'll have to pay the scalper tax on market place

    • If your handy taking apart controllers you can buy 30th anniversary look-alike shells of AliExpress for about $30-40

      • But it doesn't make it a 30th Anniversary controller.

    • I'm afraid it sold out at retailers some time ago. Your only bet of getting one now is at say eBay where scalpers are flogging it off from around $200.

  • Does Big W provide extra paid warranty like big w and jb hifi. Looking for 3 yr warranty as stick drift start after 1 yr.

    • +1

No extended warranty with Big W.

You can have a read through the Returns policy if you wish. It's all spelt out in there. Standard warranty and a 90 day change of mind returns.

      • Got it from officeworks with price beat and extended warranty. I can play for 3 yrs now without worrying about stick drift.

  • XDEC2024 seems to be a once only use coupon. I tried it again today after already using it yesterday and it claims that the code has already been used.

  • Hoping for a deal like this when the green controller launches. I thought Sony wouldn't do a green one because of some Xbox copyright nonsense haha.

Opted for delivery and it’s not coming until the first week of Jan.

    • +1

Yes. The delivery shipments shut down over the Christmas and New Years period break. Will probably start shipping again on 2nd Jan. The better idea this time of the year would of been to click & collect if there was stock.

      • I'm in no rush, was just informing others before they ordered.
