Looking for a Good Value for Money Flashlight

Hi guys, we've had a couple of flashlights, over the years but none seem that great, all faulty now with barely use. Likely lower quality I'd say.

Wondering if OzBargain had any favourites or recommendations on a torch & whether it's recommended to go built-in rechargeable, or separate batteries. Ideally something where the beam is spread evenly rather than having that 'nipple' in the middle & about 15-20cm long?

I'm not sure what a realistic price would be, maybe <$50? We don't go camping so it's something to keep inside and use when we go outside to scare-away the darkness.

Does anything come to mind or at that price point, they're much the same?

that 'nipple' in the middle & I'm about 15-20cm long

Thanks for sharing. You're also the second person I know with a third nipple.

Back to the main topic… I've had great success and longevity with 2 of these from Amazon.

    • oops lol, corrected the original post. Thanks for the link, I'll check that one out :)

Wait for 2 for $28 dollars

        • Thanks for the tip, I'll have to keep an eye open for that deal :)

I have 2 of those too. Work well. A full charge seems to last almost forever and incredibly bright!

I'm not generally against Americanisms but this one irks me.

      What irks you?

Oh, calling it a flashlight and not a torch?

    • I'm with you - super cringe.

Sofirn - pick a model that you like. Most have USB charging.

    I have a Sc31 pro, sp36 blf edition(iirc).

You can also pick up a diffuser for power outages or camping.

    • Thanks for the suggestion, Ill have to check out. Do you find any downside to having a smaller sized torch or any issues with cycling through all the light modes (especially on the SP36)?

      • +1

Not really, mostly just use both torches with the smooth ramp mode. Double click for turbo.

Sc31 pro is probably the one I'd use most. No downsides, at least for my uses. Might want to look at turbo time if you're planning on running at max brightness.

One mildly painful thing with them, as they're older models is they don't do USB-C to C charging.

Torches tend to be large because of the before times when LEDs didn't exist, or because security guards used it as something to defend themselves with without facing charges of carrying a weapon

These days, with high efficiency LEDs and good lenses for dispersing the light however you want, they have no need to be big.

    • +1 for Sofirn. They make good quality torches for a good price.

Looking for a Good Value for Money

Japanese Yen are good value right now.

  • Do you have power tools? I have a bunch of different LED lights/torches running off my generally dormant 12V & 18V batteries

    • Not a whole lot. Two Stanley 18v, the rest (angle grinder, circular saw, drills) are AC powered.

      • I have a bunch of this type of torch across my various batteries. Powerful, long run time, already own the batteries & chargers.

        • oh sorry, it's the previous 18v models from Stanley not the current V20s unfortunately. Apparently, for some reason, although both are 18v, the old batteries don't work with the new skins (although you can get an adapter to allow the new batteries to work with old skins) shrug. Looks like a decent worklight though.

  • I'd grab one of those Olights. Bought about 5 of these so far for $7.95 each time and they are super compact and easy to carry around. They output roughly 90 lumens which is pretty good considering their small size.

A better version of that is the EOS IR2 which is shorter in size and features a built in rechargeable battery (micro USB port)

A few of my Iniu power banks also have a built in torch, so I don't really have the need to carry an expensive fancy USB-C tactical torches from Sofirn etc. But if you're an outdoorsman and need something with a thousand lumens maybe grab a higher end Sofirn, Wurkkos or Olight.

    • Thanks Scrim :). I missed the latest Olight offer, anything equivalent in stores? I'll have to check out the IR2 :)

The $7,95 deal runs almost like once a month, you can click the subscribe button on the product tag and be notified when a deal for it is posted.

I've got two of the Nebo Big Larry 2. Very high quality and available at Bunnings for $30
    https://www.bunnings.com.au/nebo-big-larry-2-500-lumen-work-…

Pair them with some eneloops or other high quality rechargeable NiMH AA batteries and you're good for many years

    • Thanks for the suggestion. I've been meaning to get a decent portable worklight, might look into this one. :)

wurkkos WK03 floody (this will be more useful around the home

    • Thanks for the suggestions, much appreciated :). I noticed they're pretty tiny, do you know what the battery life is like on them?

      • do you know what the battery life is like on them?

Depends on what mode/brightness you run them on.
