Advice and Suggestions on a Dash Cam Installation

I received an Ultra HD mini dash cam as a gift and now need to figure out how to install it in my KIA Seltos.

While I’m comfortable handling hardware and software, I don’t feel confident running the wires under the trimmings. I’ve watched a few YouTube videos, and it seems easier than it probably is in practice. I’m concerned about damaging the car’s trim edges, but I still want to give it a try.

What are my best options? I’d love to hear your experiences and suggestions.

Thank you!

It's as easy as it looks. I used an OBD2 power adapter for my base model dashcam to make the install even easier.

Go for it. I believe in you.

    • Is wiring the dash cam to obd2 port still consisered hardwired?

      • Cheats way to get easy continuous 12v. You can get OBD2 plugs with timing / voltage switches as well.

        • Thanks! So when u say continous 12v from the battery it would be similar benefit to hard wired = ie can run without engine on?

Sorry noob q what purpose obd2 plug with timing/ voltage switch?

          Wqs it for battery monitoring?

an Ultra HD mini dash cam

Before you hard-wire it, make sure it's half decent. Do you know the brand name etc?

In terms of the process, youtube plus fuse taps proved handy for me

    • It's a Red Tiger.

  • I just run the cable along the corner of the windscreen and pillar using tiny cable clips, it’s barely visible from the drivers seat.

  • If you’re in Melbourne, I have someone I would recommend.

    • Who would that be ? Price ?

      • Last time I got a Viofo A119 installed, charged me $90 (that’s to hard wire it)

  • To prevent damaging the trim panels you should definitely buy a trim removal tool rather than using screwdrivers etc, it's surprisingly easy with the correct tools

  • I felt the same before installing my first dash cam, plugged into the cigarette lighter socket. I've installed about 6-7 since. It's as easy as it seems in any youtube video. Just use the plastic trim tool and go slow and easy.
