HODL until they add the JZX100 Toyota Chaser

    • +7

GT7 already a great game, for the uninitiated its basically GT5 with GT Sports mode embedded in it. Great value at $49

Loving sports mode personally and they keep adding content… bit of a grind but the quality of racing once you get to DR A+ level is pretty good.

    • +5

Big W selling JZX100 Toyota Chaser for $49? I'll upvote that I guess

  • God of War Ragnarok or Ghost of Tsushima??? I know little about either. I enjoy 3rd person games like GTA, The Last of Us and Assassin’s Creed

    • +3

Ghost of Tsushima. It's pretty similar to Assassin's Creed. Plus, you really need to play the first God of War game that came out in 2018 before Ragnarok.

    • +2

      Have you played GoW 2018?
GoT is very good and more similar to the other games you enjoy.

      • +1

Awesome, thanks. I also love Japan so I reckon this game could be perfect

      • +1

I haven't played 2018 god of war, bit the precious ones were simple enough with the upgrade system, easy as yo mama

      • +2

Oh, so GOW 2018 won Game of the Year because…. Why?

      • Just play switch game. More suitable for you.

      • the story was fantastic, but the upgrade system was annoying. that got fixed in the sequel

    • GoW Ragnarok is my favourite game of all time. I really liked Ghost of Tsushima too, but I felt the story and gameplay loop was dragging quite a bit by the end.

  • Does GT7 disc version have VR or VR required a separate purchase?

    • +8

VR part of the disc. No additional purchase required aside from the VR2

      • +3

Let me also add that GT7 in VR, with a proper wheel and seat setup, is almost the height of gaming for any racing sim fans.

        • -2

          GT7 and Sim racing lol.

          iRacing or nothing.

          • @chadleyshe: The new physics model on GT7 made it a lot better. Braking is more realistic now, have to trail brake… can't just jam on the brakes like it used to be.

DualSense Controllers are $85 as well - great for Xmas Visitors! - https://www.bigw.com.au/search?text=dual+sense&filter%5Bpric…

  • +1

Without having gone too far into them, the reviews on Metacritic regarding GT7 are very divisive! What are the main gripes people are having with the game? Is there far too much DLC? Is the game incomplete without it?

    • +1

There’s no DLC per se but there is microtransactions which is probably what the reviews are about. That said I found the game immensely enjoyable in both flat and VR modes without spending an extra cent beyond the purchase price of the game.

      Best played with a wheel.

    • +1

Apparently it was great then they snuck in a massive amounts of micro transactions after the fact, making it an absolute mammoth grind to collect certain cars otherwise.

    • +1

The grind is real. Money is hard to come by and cars are exorbitantly expensive.

The racing sucks. The AI is so trash they turned the game into a catch up simulator. I’m not kidding. You always start from the back, no qualifying no grid starts, nothing.

Cafe menus is basically it. The people want gt4 single player back. Starting with the eco boxes, upgrading and slowly working your way up instead of this poor excuse of a campaign.

Other than that it’s great lol.

      • Exceptional graphics, I think folks just like to look at the cars and appreciate the tech. But yeah… grind.

        • +4

Correct me if I'm wrong but all GT games have required players to "grind" if they want exotic cars.

      • The racing sucks. The AI is so trash they turned the game into a catch up simulator.

        Any better GT games?

      • +1

Personally I haven't had to purchase anything in game and money particularly with the weekly challenges is easy to come by. Get a gold time and that's $2M credits which is pretty good for often a few minutes effort.

        • +2

A gold is VERY difficult to be honest… If you can get it after a few minutes, you are by definition, top 5% IN THE WORLD at the game.

          • @smartProverble: Technically, to get gold (2M credits) you have to be within 3% of the fastest time. To get silver (1M credits) you have to be within 5% of the fastest time. That's different to being ranked in the top 3% or 5% of the world. I find the gold to sometimes be a bit too hard but I'm almost always guaranteed silver and I'm an only an average to good driver.

            • +2

@Big Dog: You are a good GT player. You are at least top 5% in the world, this is not average.

          • @smartProverble: Thanks mate my driver rating in sports mode is A+ but even then it's crazy how good the very best are. The laps they do are very close to perfect and even with a very good qualy lap I can be 1s+ from the very best time in the world.

    • +1

As someone who's played GT7 off and on since launch, I can comfortably say it's an enjoyable experience overall. GT games have always had some degree of grinding in them, but in reality, it's not so bad.

I get the feeling some people who play want to be given everything immediately, which is why they complain about micro transactions, but personally I've never seen the need and completely forgot they even exist. The game gives you more cars than any other GT game has given before in the form of Cafe menus. Once you've finished that "campaign mode", you've got all the tools you need to play. You don't need to spend credits on tuning parts to win those events, but if you do, you can earn more than enough from completing circuit experiences, which are like time trials.

If you want to play competitive online, they even let you borrow the cars that are compatible with the event if you don't own them.

As for DLC, there isn't any. When new cars are released, they're generally available for purchase, or in the case of the new Hyundai Ionic 5, free from an event. New tracks are free too.

      • +4

I really hate the roulette wheel thing.

We already know we'll win the worst prize, no need for the roulette wheel.

        • I'm missing only 2 of the 20M credit cars which I'll get next time they're available in the classic cars. Also missing are 4 of the cars only available by "invitation" won on the roulette wheel. I refuse to buy any of these invite only cars through microtransaction though. It's been 3(??) years of playing but I'm yet to get an invite for Pagani, Lamborghini or one other can't remember right now.

          • @Big Dog: I've had both invites, neither invitation only cars are worth waiting for to be honest. Just buy them and forget about them.

      • "I get the feeling some people who play want to be given everything immediately, which is why they complain about micro transactions"

When grind is able to be skipped by paying you will always have thoughts like are they just wasting my time on purpose to try and get me to pay.

If there are no micro transactions then you know a grind was balanced around what the devs would feel was most rewarding, not what would extract the most money and it doesn't bother me.

    • Thanks for the reply guys. I’ve been eyeing this one for a while. I don’t mind the grind, makes me appreciate the game a bit more. At $49 I reckon it’s a good deal.

      • Mate this is the only game you need. The rest become irrelevant.

Coupon code: XDEC2024 seems to work on top of that too for 10% off. But I think you need to have an Everday Rewards account judging from the applied discount description.

    • Correct

    • What is the best way to quickly contact big w re the code? I used it on an order then they only partially filled it (which also voided the cashback) so i want a new code

      • +1

I think you can only use the code once/month.

        • +1

Even if they don't fill the order, that's dumb

    • It applied fine for me, however when they processed payment the discount wasn't factored in

  • +2

Wth, bought then saw cashreward have $5 cashback for click and collect retailer which include bigw lol

  • +3

Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart is also $49. Nice!

    • Thanks!

      • Just picked it up from EB Games - priced matched with 10% off gift cards from AusPost :)

  • +1

WB3-3C22-27MY-DY37 To claim $10 off your next online shop of $75 or more

Might work. Just got that email.

  • Nice. Any good deals on PS5 SSD cards atm? Gonna need some more storage with all the cheap games lately.

    • There could be a sale on the SSD's on boxing day. There was one last year. Hoping there is one this year.

  • Can we do a price match at JBis??

  • I remember playing Grand Turismo, that game was epic, probably the best title on the playstation.

Didn't even know there are (at least) 6 more of them, because Halo took over my life.

  • Skull & Bones is $24 at Amazon for PS5 and Series X https://www.amazon.com.au/Skull-and-Bones-PlayStation-5/dp/B…

  • If i have gt7 for the ps4, and put it into the ps5, will it 'upgrade' it to the ps5 version, or would i have to buy it again

    • You need to pay for the upgrade.

  • +1

I want Euro Truck Simulator on the PS5

  • +1

Tempted by Horizon Forbidden West while it's discounted this much.

But I want the Complete Edition with DLC before making a start. Happy to play my backlog and be patient.

Disappointed they seemingly didn't release the Complete Edition (physical) in Aus, yet. Any one have a vague idea when it's coming?

  • +1

If anyone is ordering through Big W, don't use a giftcard.

I placed a click and collect order and they cancelled my order due to no stock availability (website still says it's in stock at that store however).

If they cancel your order, you can't reuse the everday extra discount code and it can take a few days to receive the giftcard refund.

What a joke. This means you may end up being left with unused giftcards.

  • any deal on the game?
