Is this a grey market seller, or is it legitimate?

    • Are grey market sellers not legitimate?

They're not credit card scammers like G2A, if that's what you're asking.

      They're a legitimate business, if that's what you're asking.

But I'm pretty sure they're a grey market … which is what you're asking.

      • What exactly is "grey market" wrt to steam? Keys bought in a lower currency region and sold to others or something?

        • The keys I've bought off CDKeys have been photos of keys, rather than alphanumeric-strings (like you'd get with humble bundle and the like). So I assume these are retail box sales from other markets.

        • +4

Grey market just means any merchant that isn't an official reseller/store. An official store obtains keys directly from the publishers, so you know they 100% work and the money is directly supporting the developer. Whereas grey market keys can come from literally anywhere ie. sourced "legitimately" from different regions or physical versions, or illegitimately through fraudulent means like credit card fraud.

gg.deals distinctly keeps these stores as separate categories so you are aware of all the risks. Though cdkeys.com are one of the more reputable ones as they are not an open marketplace meaning more likely to be "legitimate"

@wangasm: if im not supporting a game's developer and im funding potentially illegal and illegitimate schemes that obtain keys and copies of the game i might as well pirate it (which i don't support either but each to their own)
its often not that much more expensive to buy directly on steam and safely contribute to your library and the efforts of developers :)

            • -4

@DarknessItself: if a developer isnt self published, you're not supporting them anyway

        • +5

Steal credit card/phish credit card details.

Buy as many keys as they can before the card gets flagged, send them to a new email.

Sell keys at below market value, credit transactions to their own accounts.

When chargebacks from banks happen due to the illegal transactions, the devs selling the keys on storefronts will be the ones bearing the cost. So instead of making nothing from a pirated game, they actually lose money on grey market keys.

That's the worst case scenario. The issue is that you can't know where the key came from, so if you buy from resellers you're essentially rolling the dice on the devs' dollars.

    • +6

Yes they are. They are not an approved steam reseller.

Likely fine but purchase at your own risk.

      • Is fanatical a approved steam reseller

          Yes

if you haven't yet heard about the magic of disposable credit cards then get off the net. For example Revolut gives'em to you for free

What this game about? Any good? Need something to kill time on the holidays.

    • +3

      Absolutely great for time killing.

    • Fantastic game! Read some reviews, it's been a big hit for a reason.

    • +1

It's a good game but becomes a bit of a slog when you get to the mermaid people area

      • Huh that’s exactly where I stopped playing. Thought it’s just me realising I spent too many hours in this game grinding.

      • It was quite annoying calling for the Beluga whale every time just to get around

  • Thankyou been waiting for this deal. It’s all time low for this game

  • $12.02 with code GGD13 on Eneba. Original price is 12.39. Code takes it to $10.78. Plus service fee: $12.02. From my experience. I paid $12.31 with OP's link - I used the code JOLLY.

    thanks OP

does this code only apply to this particular game, or others too??

looks a bit silly but which such great reviews I will give this game a go.

Great deal, this game is worth it at full price. So fun and addicting. Has elements of roguelike and management

CDKeys gets posted a lot given that they're a grey market site.
Consider spending a few extra bucks from a reputable site making your purchase more sustainable..

    • Whats unsustainable about these sorts of sites? I thought they just resold keys to games?

      • +1

Those keys were initially purchased somehow. We don't know if that was done with stolen card info or legitimately.
There are more reputable sites that source their keys directly.

        • Well we do know that it wasn't with "stolen card info" - because the seller is CDKeys, and they have been operating without issue for literally decades. They certainly haven't decided to switch to a life of crime for Dave The Diver 😁

          • +1

@Nom: The point being made here is how did CDKeys get the keys? So we don't know if it was with/without stolen card info.
Operating for decades is not a valid way to certify legitimacy.

            • @defectr: Because the resellers who obtain the keys through theft/fraud/deception can't do this in secret - keys get cancelled, titles get revoked from libraries, game devs post announcements, etc. etc.

CDKeys purchases haven't had these issues.

You're absolutely right that we don't know how they get their keys - and there's no reason to assume there's anything illegal about whatever method they do use 🤷🏼‍♂️

  • I'm not sure about the website, but the game itself is fantastic.

Great music, fun gameplay and story and my kids are happy to watch me play on the TV.

  • This is available on fanatical for not much more with legit keys. $12.34
