Best advice. Avoid Coopers diy kits.
They're not that bad but black rock are better. Definitely avoid the yeast they come with. Use lallemand yeasts instead. Also batch prime for better and less carbonated results
The entire point of my comment was that it was good enough to keep me engaged in a brand new hobby and to heavily invest into it. I'm still using the Coopers fermentation vessel (though it is the next thing on the list to upgrade - come at me pressurised fermentation)
is it actually cheaper to brew your own vs buying from shops?
Lol have you seen the prices of a case of beer lately? Alcohol tax goes up every 6 months, straya.
If you already have the set up then right now, $27.36 gets you 30 Coopers Pale Ale long necks. That's the roughly the equivalent of $11 per carton.
yes…………….
Yeah much cheaper, with just the basic setup your typically brewing 23 liters at a time. Only the marginal cost of the ingredients once you are up and running with the kit. Like any hobby though you can keep upgrading.
I went with the Morgan's starter kit.
Morgans is fully owned by Coopers, but better grade components, and better grade 1.7kg kit
. If you can't afford a keg setup, buy a bench capper, and save your 375/750ml glass bottles. Use decent crown seals.
Morgans >>>Coopers
Anyone tried the Russian imperial stout recipe? Made up of the stout, lager and dark ale kits
What is the chance i give myself methanol poisoning?
Zero.
Maybe a stomach bug from poor sanitation.
Even that is highly unlikely. Been doing home brew for over 10 years & never had a sanitation issue.
Only if you intentionally add industrial methanol to it, which is what has happened in 99% of the methanol poisoning cases you hear about.
Thanks Op, lucky I went last night (Warringah Mall Sydney) because there was hardly any stock left. Managed to get the last Pale Ale & European Lager.
Hopefully they're getting more stock in because I've never seen it so empty. Sign of the times.
I got given the DIY brew kit for Christmas two years ago - let's just say flashing forward to now I have a full dual keg & tap setup and controlled temperature fermentation area on my deck. An awesome gift for the right person if you're looking!
