Cheap over Ear Headphones for Elderly

Want to source a set of overear headphones with microphone to pair to a mobile phone for an elderly family member for phone calls.

Will not be playing music or watching any media. Just phone calls. So don't need crisp quality, just a acceptable microphone. Doesn't matter if it is one of those microphones you have to pull down or if it is discrete.

Other than that the onlly other thing that would be ideal is having a stand or some sort of easy charging capability. But not essential.

Hoping to get some suggestions on brands/models

  • Are they hearing impaired? Android or iOS?

If they are hearing impaired they are eligible for free headphones or a hearing aid every few years.

Hearing Australia has these great Sennheiser RS195 Headphones

They are a government run organisation and my parents have found that they do not pressure you nor try to upsell you like some of the private hearing aid places.

"Hearing Australia is a statutory authority constituted under the Australian Hearing Services Act 1991. Hearing Australia is the largest provider of government-funded hearing services in Australia"

'Elderly' is an insulting, humiliating word in this kind contexts which are very common on this forum in the posts by probably x and z generations who cannot add up single digit numbers without phones' calculator.

No it’s not. You have spent too much time listening to easily offended pearl clutches.

    • ignore & don't let it worry you.👍

Elderly is considered a polite term for “old”

Remember, it's only ageist if it comes from the Old Age region of France. Otherwise it's just sparkling prejudice.

Let me guess, you were born somewhere between 1946 and 1964?

    • Old fart it is then.

    • Yeah, don't be cheap and insulting, get them this https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/884533
      😅

  • maybe they won't like headphones. especially over ear they will complain it blocks other sounds and that it is dangerous. it could be as well for example they can't hear so they turn the volume up too high and then can't hear the timer they set for cooking or smoke alarms.

maybe try something like a old telephone shape that works as a bluetooth device I'm sure they have something like that. so they can hold it up to their ear and listen/speak on calls that way. it's probably not only nostalgic for them but they can hear other sounds clearly and easily take it away from their ear. just saying not trying to be offensive but think about how they will use it, if it's too modern they just won't use it at all. buttons that you can't see on the earcups sounds like a nightmare for them as well, even I struggle with those.

here I found what I am talking about: https://www.amazon.com.au/Telephone-Bluetooth-Radiation-Head…
not recommending this particular one but bright unique colour sounds like a way for them to easily find it as well. no reviews and not sure about the mic quality, but if you searched hard enough pretty sure there is a recommended version of this product with good quality. or give the one above a try amazon is good with returns.
