    Tell them the price son

Almost $700, $815 for the newest M4 variant from Apple directly (via AOC) and get 16GB RAM instead.

    • +4

Definitely go for M3 mini over this.

Combine with 10% gift cards to get the price even closer.

      • +14

        Do you mean M4?

    • +15

Here's the deal that Apostle is referring to. Save yourself some $$.
Future proof yourself. Buying old hardware at this price is no good. Maybe at $400. But not $700.

Card.Gift had 8% off Apple last week, bringing it to about $730. Newer chip, and double the ram.

      Do. Not. Buy. This.

      • -2

        Maybe at $400.

        Yeah, nah, you're dreaming.

    • -7

Or just get this and upgrade the RAM.
I mean, it's eight GB Apostle. What could it cost? 10 dollars?

      • +2

The M* Mac Minis cannot have their ram upgraded after purchase.

        • -3

Irony. It was a joke. Not obvious enough? Apple are notorious for upgrade costs, even if it is possible.

And does nobody get Arrested Development references around here? Maybe I should have gone with The Simpsons.

    • Apple themselves value an additional 8gb memory at about $300 per 8gb. So you're paying less than that and also getting a significantly improved processor.

  • +18

Yeah, if its 25-45% slower it should be that much cheaper. This is a terrible buy for anyone thinking of buying it. Get the M4 with 10% off cards and you;ll be within $50 of this and have a system that'll last you twice as long.

This is truly the very definition of The Sam Vimes "Boots" theory, at what is arguably a very small leap in cost.

    • Exactly, unless this goes down to $400, then will be a good buy, at $700 and that physical size, nah!

  • +5

If this is like $300 clearance, probably can reconsider.

  • +2

Agreed that M4 is probably a much better buy for not much more coin, but this is the cheapest way to get a "new" Apple Mac which might be worthwhile for some use cases (eg signage/watching recordings of town halls/etc)

  • +1

Not a great deal. Last year's (Dec) M1 Mac mini at $497 was much better. Appears to be annual clearance.

That had only 12 in stock across the country

      • I was able to get one easily and three stores closest to me had the stock at the time! Must have gotten lucky.

For about $40 more buy M4 16gb mini from AOC using discounted GCs

  • +5

Horrible deal at that price. 1000% worth paying a lil extra for the m4 mac mini 16gb with apple edu discount

    • +1

Lots of "education students" in this thread.

      • They don't check, but even if they did, you've probably got a relative who is and can say you're buying it for them.

  • +2

    Go for M4!

  • M2 pro with 16gb of ram and 512gb if about 1300 https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/mac-mini-m…

    • This or m4……

      • an m2 pro would be faster than the stock m4 but an m4 pro would be way better than a m2 pro.

        • +2

Faster in some benchmarks. M4 wins in single thread and power. You'd be crazy to pay 1300 for the m2 pro, with m4 so cheap.

          • @bargaino: if you do video editing though especially in final cut , you wouldn't buy a base M4 for that.

            • @kungfuman: Can't you just adjust the settings a bit? No need to render 4K in real-time. We used to do video editing with far less powerful computers. base M4 is still very good.
