I had no idea these existed. Seems like a good price and the various uses and mounting options are really cool.

    Anyone have these and recommend?

    • +1

They arent amazing but a good start

    • +2

They are excellent. I 3D printed mounts and put them under my kitchen island facing the tv.

    • They work really well, slot right into the sonos ecosystem and sound is good.

      • +2

Can they be used as simple bluetooth speakers?

    • We have three. They used to be even cheaper I’m pretty sure. Like $99. But that’s inflation for ya. They quietly upgraded it recentlyish too with a longer cable and I swear it also sounds better than my two older ones.

      • +3

They were $99 when they were selling out their gen1 a couple of years ago.

        • +4

Turns out I was wrong, we paid $149 back then. Thought it was cheaper for some reason.

    • They're good. I have a sonos setup and have a couple of these in the covered outdoor areas for the last 2-3 years. They're lasting well!

      • Ah that’s awesome, we are looking to put a speaker on our deck outside (undercover) and I was wondering if these would be okay.

        How did you mount them?

      • I have done the same and its holding up for the last year.
Just used the mounting bracket you can buy at IKEA.

        Great value!

    • +2

They are great. Paired with a Sonos Beam and sub mini, these make the best 3.1 Sonos Budget surround system.

    • +8

Quite honestly I'm surprised with the feedback that people are giving. I've had this unit for over 2 years (not sure if there's been newer renditions) and all I can say is that it's great when it works, but absolute crap when it doesn't.

There have been multiple times where the app just cannot connect to the speaker, then I change nothing and a few days later it works without issue.

To be fair it has been working relatively well the past few months, but the inconsistency has really put me off recommending this to anyone.

      • +4

Sounds like you've been screwed by the Sonos app issues. Thankfully I've noticed no problems at all but man it has ruined a lot of peoples setups.

        • Yeah that was the general consensus when I tried troubleshooting online as it seems it was not an isolated case. It was especially bad on the older Sonos app, then they abandoned the app and made a new one which has worked a fair bit better.

      • I have never had the issues you describe - not even once. All mine are Gen1 and have had them since 2020.

      • +2

We have Sonos gear at work. It is the flakiest audio gear I have ever worked with.

      • +1

Sounds just like the Sonos Roams I have. They’re great until they’re not.

  • +1

    Is it real "sonos" ?

    • +4

      Yes

    • +1

It appears in the app alongside the sonos branded ones

  • +5

The sound is ordinary but acceptable in these but OK for a bedroom or background music. I use mine with Roon and it shows up in Roon Remote and plays fine.

      • for someone with taste / Roon.
  • +2

they're genuinely ok for the money!
The 'lamp' versions are better sounding, nicer much deeper and punchier bass.

but not double the price better sounding!

    • Not “smart” either

      • Nor as ugly as sin.

  • +1

These are good to complete your setup. I have them in my home office, and as surrounds for my living room setup with my arc

  • +1

Are these good for a 3.1 setup?

    • +1

      with a beam, yes!

    • +3

I ran a 3.1 setup for ages as my TV speakers, had to use the Apple TV via Airplay to actually use them but I was very happy.
Added a Beam and now I don't have to use Airplay anymore

  • Do these show up in HomeKit as AirPlay speakers (like the Sonos ones)?

    • +2

these are treated identically to any Sonos speakers by all 'stuff'…
great entry level into the sonos ecosystem!

    • +1

      yeah they do

  • Very happy with these as cheap surrounds. Paired with an Arc and Sub.

  • +1

These integrate nicely with Home Assistant as well.

  • Bought two years ago and hardly use as it doesn't have Bluetooth which annoys me but they sound ok for a mono speaker and look pretty cool. The Sonos app is slow as sh!t with YouTube music

  • -1

    Sorry noob question
Given this is smart speaker, does it use google assistant or alexa?

    • +1

Nope its smart in the sense that it uses wifi. It doesn't have a microphone so no assistant built in but you can use Google Assistant (not sure about Alexa) to play stuff on it

  • I use these with the sono arc, bought the stands too, very nice setup, ppl actually surprised they have the ikea tag on it.

  • I have Sonos Playbar, Sub and two rear One's. Thinking of these as a pair for two fronts. Someone sway me.

    • +1

      Go for it!

Was that enough of a sway?

      • +2

Sigh. Yes. Thank you, sir :D

    • +1

That setup isnt possible, at least for Beam / Arc you can't add dedicated L/R channels. Not sure if its the same with the playbar.
Its a real shame. I'd love the Beam as just a center channel.

      • -1

No no, the setup is possible… I don't have Beam or Arc. I have a Playbar. The One's act as dedicated L/R in the rear as a group and these will act the same.

        • +1

I understand you don't have a Beam or Arc. If the setup is possible for the Playbar, then go for it.

EDIT: apparently its not possible even with the Playbar. If you mean just adding a stereo pair as a group and then grouping the Playbar with the stereo pair, that won't work properly.

    • Do it, you can never have enough speakers

  • Would these work well for a PC/Mac mini?

    • Nah, this is a budget Sonos speaker - using Airplay from a Mac to the speaker does work, but there's a delay, and not fit for the purpose of a speaker connected directly to a computer. i.e. YouTube video and audio would be out of sync.

Use the Sonos app to play music on it, and that's where it shines. Multiple speakers in multiple rooms playing the same music.

  • Can these be used without the sonos app?

    • +1

You could use Spotify Connect from the Spotify App, or perhaps as a stream receiver from Roon or Squeezebox.

Otherwise, no - for instance, you can't use the YouTube music app to directly send music to the speaker, you have to use Sonos' awful YTM integration and that makes me sad.

Otherwise, I think it's a great speaker, and even better when you pair for stereo!

      • +1

        Thanks for letting me know.

I have two sonos speakers and just setting them up was such fussy experience, i would never buy sonos again.

  • +1

First time ive heard of a store charging for Click and Collect.

    • +1

      Ikea are scumbags with this.

The entire Ikea experience is about getting people in the store to buy more shit than they planned.

Cheap food. A maze layout forcing you to walk past everything.

They don't want people using Click & Collect. They want people to see going to Ikea as a day outing.

      • Wouldn't say $12.5 for eight soggy meatball and runny mash potatoes are cheap. Ikea food is just plain bad as any bland Scandinavian tastebud. Makes $2 Costco junk thousands mile better.

        • +2

The crap at the end is cheap. Hotdogs, ice-cream etc.

        • oh man I love those meatballs

          • @andresampras: They’re reheated frozen stuff they sell in their food section, as are their Swedish-made frozen desserts. Their vege balls are acceptable, too.

        • +1

It used to be cheap years ago, but it’s not worth it now.

      • -7

The irony is that while forcing idiots through the maze probably increases sales to those idiots, the maze is such a complete turn off for most people that they're more than likely actually losing sales overall compared to just focusing on a killer digital experience leveraging their strong brand.

        • +9

Hang on, let's call Ikea, with their annual revenue in the tens of billions, and tell them that their sales process developed over nearly 70 years has been identified as fundamentally flawed by someone on a bargain web site. I'm sure they'll listen. It's Friday, a good chuckle at numpties always helps pass a slow Friday.

          • -1

@banana365: They've barely grown profit over the last 10 years mate. They're cutting prices in an attempt to drive flagging sales.

Temple and Webster made 65% of IKEA's revenue in Australia this year. But sure, their 70 year old business model is just fine.

            • +1

@d3ft: Ikea is a not for profit charity!

              • +1

@bleugh: Yes, through some exceptionally dodgy processes that ensures the money stays within the family. Ikea's accountants could teach Hollywood a thing or two.

  • Can this be paired or play spotify simultaneously with an Alexa/google home speaker?

  • +1

Just got a pair of these for rear surrounds, and they've been great paired with a Beam and Sub Mini. Adjustable mounting brackets are super easy to install too

    • Can the same be done with an arc? To clarify you've added these to your system as dedicated left and right for surround sound..? Cheers

      • +1

You can add them as rear surrounds behind the listener yes, but they can't be added as dedicated front left and right channels to a soundbar as the soundbar has those channels already

  • +1

These are a Sonos one in a different case.

  • How would a couple of these go as outdoor speakers under an alfresco. They wouldn't get rained on.

    • No IP rating = not designed for this purpose.

But it'll work, just no guarantee on how the mesh and electronics will hold up

  • I have a pair of One SL connected to my TV.

Does anyone know if I can add a pair of Symfonisk as rears?

    • +2

Nope, you could group them but youd just get 4 speakers playing the same thing (or 2x stereo pairs, cant remember) but you won't be getting surround sound

      • As suspected, cheers for confirming

      • Great for those of us who want to keep the sound down whilst also being able to hear TV from the rear positioned speakers.
I have a pair of Sonos ones and playbase + sub (no symfonisk but eyeing them)

  • -1

Can I use them along with Yamaha SR-B20A? I know it's a stupid question to ask but since they are Wifi enabled, was just wondering.

  • +3

I’ve had these in the kids’ bedrooms for a few years. They were great until a few months ago when Sonos completely botched some brig changes to the app earlier this year. For a couple of months they didn’t work at all - the app could not see them no matter what I did. After a few updates, the speakers were visible but playback was flaky, would have constant drop outs and the volume would randomly go to 0 or to 100.

Now things are a bit better but it’s still a very frustrating experience. There is still some flakiness with playback, especially using Airplay, features are still missing that used to be in the app and it is much slower to navigate the app, connect to speakers, and for the speakers to respond to changes in the app.

I would have strongly recommended them but I just can’t until the issues with the app are resolved.

    • +1

Bought a couple earlier this year from IKEA and had the same issue. When I was returning them the worker said many others also returned because of the app issues

    • The “new” app has finally improved the last 2 months so it has most of the functionality of the old app, but for 6 months it was a massive dump on everyone who had a Sonos system before the “update”. The CEO should have quit.

  • +1

I bought this circa 2019. Still working perfectly fine.

Using it for Spotify Streaming. Sounds great too for small bedroom.

  • +2

Got a pair for $150 on marketplace the other day. Added to a beam gen 2, sub mini and its night and day difference in 3d sound.

  • This or a JBL Charge 5?

    Edit: Typo

  • Shame the Apple Pay $30 discount ended
