At this point in time, it seems like it will cost me less to get a 'new' used S20 Ultra than it will cost to get a new screen.

Have a look for sellers on AliExpress if you're confident in changing it yourself.
Insurance claim might be cheaper if you have that?

or have a look on temu - they have had big cashbacks recently ~25%
How much you bought your s20 ultra for btw?
I'm not going to recommend anyone, but I wanted a while you wait replacement for my S9 a couple of years ago. I used Google Maps to search for 'Samsung Screen Replacement', then did some work with online quote systems. Eventually I found one that wasn't too unreasonable.
However, at this stage, you might be close to right about buying a reconditioned phone.
The question you need to ask yourself is, "am I willing to take the risk on a reconditioned phone or grey import". I bought a grey 'new' phone once. Stress 'once'. The POC arrived with problems - it was very obviously reconditioned badly, swap offered. The swap was a dud. I had to fight long and hard for a refund.
You know the history of your phone.
