  • I played Animals & Coins, level 1 took about 5 minutes? Maybe 10? I wasn't paying attention.

    • +1

How long did you waited for the $3 to track?

      • +1

Hasn't tracked yet, I read it takes up to 48 hours somewhere. Presumably it will come in batches similar to store tracking.

        • Ok thanks.

          • +3

@ilovefullprice: I just got my first ShopBack Play cashback tracked and challenge completed.

The challenge requirement "Complete level 1" should actually read like "Complete the first reward of the game". For example, the first reward for Domino Dreams requires you to complete Chapter 1 for which you need to play a few levels to gain a number of stars to progress to Chapter 2.

For me, the first game reward tracked in ShopBack within a few minutes of completing Chapter 1 in the game.

In iOS it wants you to enable tracking across different apps. Ummmm……..nope!

  • So you got to download games and play it

    Permit usage access

Usage access allows an app to track which other apps that you're using and how often, as well as your operator, language settings and other details.

$3 to track everything you do on your phone. Fark off.

  • No games available. Frustrating. Tell me this before i agree please.

  • Thanks all for the heads up but no thanks.

Getting desperate at SB. And App only is so discrimatory.

Usage access allows an app to track which other apps that you're using and how often, as well as your operator, language settings and other details.

NO WAY. Don't fall for this.

    • +3

I did. Agreed to the T&C's without reading them (pretty much like iTunes)… then it goes to a Tracking consent needed screen - I haven't changed any settings there - even location is only accessible While using.

So, I can't even get to the games, but had I known they want to know everything I do on my device, they can politely get fook'd.

      • Exactly my thought, they wanna track me across all apps/devices……I don’t think so.
I was tempted to turn it on just to get the $3 but then thought better of it, who knows how much info they could scrape with access to all the data on all the apps/devices linked to your Apple ID.
They can also impolitely get Forked!

    • Ahh ok, that's the catch. Thanks for the info.
Does anyone know which app has the usage access now that I've activated it, the Shopback app or the game that I played?

      • +4

Answering my own question - its the Shopback app and usage access can be turned off in the special app access setting

  • +2

can't we disable the access permission after receiving the $3?

    • I'd be worried about the other details they get. Maybe use a burner phone.

      • After the Terms of service to let ShopBack collect and share info, it says "You only need to do this once". Does it mean it always has access?

      • +3

And just have SB, the game, Cashrewards and TopCashback loaded on the phone. After completing Level 1, close the game and just keep opening and reloading CR and TCB. Let them know how little you value SB haha.

  • +1

doggy Shopback scam for invasive phone data access. let alone these game mode will drain the battery fast

  • You have to watch a million ads with these games btw. Or at least with the one I chose (train miner).

    Permit usage access

Usage access allows an app to track which other apps that you're using and how often, as well as your operator, language settings and other details.

Slipping that in is borderline deceptive. I don't think many peeps would knowingly 'sell' all this information, ongoing, for a one-off $3.

Saw this last night, was waiting for the OzB response was not disappointed aha

Even ReceiptJar are getting sneaky now - offer to link directly to your email so they can “scan” for invoices as they come in so you don’t need to forward them manually… they will be able to see EVERY email you receive, despite them saying they’ll only look for invoices

    • +2

offer to link directly to your email so they can “scan” for invoices

      Wtf!

      • +1

It’s ok! They’ll only keep your invoices and not any personal emails /s

To revoke usage access on Android

    1) Enter “Settings”.
    2) Scroll down and tap “Additional Settings”.
    3) Tap on “Privacy”.
    4) Tap on “Apps with usage access”.
    5) Select Shopback.
    6) Toggle the “Permit usage access” switch

    • +6

For me it was in Settings > Apps > Special app access > Usage access > ShopBack.

It's probably easier to search for usage access or something similar in the settings.

      • Do I need to wait for the bonus to track before revoking access?

        • +1

No idea but maybe it's safer to do so? I'm assuming it may have something to do with how the game let's SB know you completed the level.

  • If you get:

We couldn't connect you to the store, likely due to a temporary connection issue.
    Please try again.

    What it really means is:

Please update the app, you lazy ass!

    Or something to that effect.

More and more I’m finding shopback to be scummy-like. Beginning to feel like temu/aliexpress level of nonsense.

I really hope CR & TCB don't ever fall to this level of $2 marketing nonsense.

    • And ByteDance/TikTok

    • +2

I’ve thought for a while the app developers must be close with/the same as temu.
Both trashy annoying features with poor wording.

  • Tried on PC to see what would happen… "No $3 for you!"

  • Which is the easiest game to play?

  • One minute I was after a quick $3, 24 hours later I'm still spinning the wheel in coin master.

  • Can't use VPN when playng their games…

  • For iPhones, does turning off 'Allow tracking' in the app settings do the same thing as the 'Permit usage access' switch on Android?

  • Okay ngl travel town is pretty fun lol

  • Tracking just came through for me. $0.11 confirmed by 12 Jan, challenge completed.

  • Mine only tracked at $1.19 rather than $3.

    Anyone experiencing this too?

    • $1.19 might be the base cashback for playing, not the bonus.

      • Does that mean I need to play more levels in the game?

        • +1

No you're good. On the "earn more" page it should say "you earned $3 bonus" when you click on the challenge.

          • @Ezio: Yeah I see that too.

Hmm this is confusing. I guess just have to wait for this pending reward to complete and trust the system and see what happens.

  • What’s the specific tracking that needs to be allowed on iOS? I’ve allowed most but still goes back to settings when clicking on play now

    • Took me a while to work it out as well, but just posted my steps below to get it working on iPhone.

  • Anyone been able to do this on an iPhone? clicking the Start Playing button takes you to Settings, but there's no setting for "Tracking consent" like in the message Shopback gives so can't actually get to the games.

Edit: Ok worked it out. On iPhone you first have to go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking, and turn on the "Allow Apps to Request to Track" button. Then when clicking the Start Playing button when it takes you to Settings there's a new toggle switch in the apps setting for "Allow Tracking" that you turn on. Then going back to Shopback it allows you to get to the games.

I assume reversing the steps would turn off Shopbacks ability to track. So first turn off the Allow Tracking toggle switch under the apps settings, then turning off the Allow Apps to Request to Track toggle in Privacy & Security.

  • Game tracked on Friday when I first installed and played the game. However I also played throughout the weekend and didn't track (ShopBack play specifically says within 48 hours) so I've raised a cash through ShopBack chatbot.

    • No tracking here either.

  • couldn't find this in earn more tab

OzBargain go to deal link opens shopback apps internal browser which says only available in shopback app 🤦

play train one and got x2 cashbacks around $0.10 cents each within 4 hours

guessing reached 5000 opt-ins and deal expired?

    • +1

      Yeah it's over, 5000 participants.
