Xbox Series X 2TB Console Galaxy Black Special Edition $899 + Delivery ($0 C&C/ in-Store) @ JB Hi-Fi

860

Started a Reddit Thread a couple days ago asking if this Galaxy Edition is likely to ever go on sale. The overwhelming response was NO.

Looks like us lads in Australia have gotten lucky!

Oos around much of the world it seems, yet isn’t really a problem in Aus and we also get a $100 AUD discount. Which isn’t much, however, as good as it gets for now and JB are the only Retailer offering any kind of discount, and this is the first time since Launch.

I get many think it’s a waste. This isn’t for you though. It’s my first Series X so the obvious choice for me. Purchased one an hour ago.

Except MSs big money isn’t coming from gaming so there’s likely not a lot of drive in the company to drop another 50-100 billion on gaming acquisitions until they start to see benefits from those purchases. Right now their subscription base seems to be plateauing off and hardware sales lagging dramatically. Shareholders may not accept a bid for EA or the like.

And then of course there’s getting it approved at a legal level. It was a significant effort with massive compromises to get the Activision buyout through. They probably won’t succeed in trying another one of that scale for years to come.

        • Yeh all good points.

So much drama over this post lol!

The is no shortage of whinging that goes on this site. Some people can’t just ignore a deal that isn’t for them. They have to jump in the comments and start lecturing and arguing with anyone that thinks differently.

the classic OzBargain saga: come for the deals, stay for the drama! It's like a soap opera, but with discount codes instead of cliffhangers

        Ah…

and so are ’some’ Days of our Lives

    • Never in doubt! 🤣

Decent deal considering it also leaves the expansion port free for another 1tb or 2tb card.
If you really need that much space, I mean a lot of games these days are 70-120gb

XBox is just priming you all for the inevitable $1200+ price tag when they release a Pro Model…This is just the way of things now…invest in Crypto and it won't be an issue, maybe some $GUNZ for OFF THE GRID when it is officially released, games will all eventually be blockchain based. embrace it now or get left behind.

I thought that the Series X was the "Pro" model for 4K 120Hz gaming. The Series S being the normal Xbox model for Mums and Dads etc.

    • You seen the sui handheld coming along that seems to be a bit like a rebadged ayaneo air?
I think I’ll pick one of them up even tho it’s overpriced for what it is.

Did this post summon the miserable people of reddit? Jesus Christ. You may not like the product but that doesnt stop it from being a discount.

  • Good discount but the colour scheme is not what I'd personally go for. They should have just marketed this as their 'pro' model by giving it a more premium aesthetic and left it as that seeing as the Series X is enough as it is. Indiana Jones looks amazing and plays silky smooth on the Series X. I'd love to see more Xbox games using the same Id Tech 7 engine because it's optimized so well.

    • Just like all colour variations of say the Xbox One X (Limited Editions) none of those were a 'pro' model. You can't change the Series X into another model. To be a 'pro" model it would have to be a completely different model with different hardware specification. And i'm not talking about just increasing the inbuilt storage size like how this console is.

      • I think you're missing my point. I realise an increase in storage doesn't make it a 'pro' model to compete with the PS5 Pro, but seeing as Xbox aren't releasing one, at the very least they could have simply marketed this as an elite model in the same way we had Xbox 360 Elite models that came in all black and had increased storage.

It doesn't cost any extra, but marketing it as an elite model instead of a special edition can at the very least make it seem like Xbox has a top tier model of their own. Calling it elite, bumping up the storage and adding some accents to it to make it look more 'pro' would make it stand out more than just calling it a special edition with a random galaxy pattern.

I'm not missing any point. To make an Elite (or Pro if you want to call it) model i would have thought they would of had to increase the CPU and GPU speed like they did with the PS5 Pro as compared to the standard PS5. As i said just slapping in more storage capacity doesn't make it an "Elite" or "Pro" model. It needs to have an increased CPU and GPU speed compared to the previous model. This Galaxy edition does not have any different CPU and GPU even compared to the 1TB model. It's only a slight visual alteration to the case with extra storage capacity. Nothing at all else is different. So that's why it can never be classed as an "Elite" or "Pro" model.

          • @hollykryten: You said it yourself with "I would have thought". Yes, you simply would have thought, but that doesn't mean what you thought was right. Do you make the rules? Who says it needs to have an improved CPU or GPU? That's what new generations are for and historically have always been for — to make them more powerful. An elite model is simply an iteration of the current model that is improved in some way.

Are you going to just completely disregard what I said about the Xbox 360 Elite model and how it came in black and increased storage and that's it? Or maybe you're just too young to remember. It didn't have a better CPU or GPU. Xbox were the first to do this, so who are you to say they can't do this with the Series X? They could 100% have released an Xbox Series X Elite model with 2TB storage and left it at that, period.

As somebody with an XSX + 2TB Seagate Expansion Storage, remember kids: Any flash memory storage has writing cycle lifespan!!!

It's not a matter of if but when that will happen, it's easier and cheaper to replace an external storage than the internal storage.

Although we can replace the internal NVMe, there is no official way to reinstall the OS like One S/X as of now.
I've done that in both consoles but XSX still a no.

PlayStation folks are cooked, its internal storage is soldered to the main board and cannot be replaced. RIP.

Correction, the last time I checked (2022-2023) it was impossible for an user to install a Series S/X OS.

It looks like that is no longer the case and it can be done easily.
Still, if you have to open the console to access its internal storage, it is not fun haha

      • What your saying is nothing but facts and truths, but also, we should still expect 8yrs+ no? In which case the Series X will be nothing more than Nostalgia and good memories for 90% (or thereabouts) of the current owners I would think.

Valid points though for people who might want to continue using it for longer.

        • I have trust issues and since I adopted NVMe or SSD for the matter everywhere, I do not trust on them on the same level I would trust a HDD.

Like you said in another words, these storage will likely last a decade because there isn't an insane amount of writing like a PC for example, but still, it is a chip and if one day it decides to goes RIP, there is no way to prevent that.

A HDD gives you sign that it is dying and even if its logical board fried, you can buy the same model, replace the board and HDD is back online like new.

I don't wanna this topic to sound like drama, but I never see folks mentioning about the flash storage negative side.
That is why in my opinion, it is far better to buy the normal XSX 1TB and a 2TB external expansion storage, or even 1TB for the matter over buying this XSX 2TB version.

          • +1

@ratoloko: The thing to consider though is with a 2tb stock internal you’ll be downloading and rarely deleting things and never moving things from one drive to another. Compared to PC’s let’s be real, we could be talking 2% of the writing going on in the space of a year. At least compared to how much I know I’m writing to my PC’s nvme’s! They’re going to outlive the rest of the console 9/10 at least imo.

            • @JC1186: True!
Just my overthinking side wouldn't get the 2TB version if I had to buy one because of the details above, unless it was insanely cheap.
I would still have an external storage for another reason: Mobility

I have done this when upgrading from One S to One S and One X, connect the storage into the new console, do the whole welcome thing, log in with the same account and all of your games are ready to be played with zero download required.
You can do the same with a friend console, just take the storage, connect, log-in with your account and all the games are available there without download and without taking storage space from your friend or whatever console.

              It is beautiful haha
