Globird suck. They do this it seems once or twice a year. They entice people in with low rates then jack the prices way up and hope to bill people before they notice and switch. I don't think its a mistake it's happening around christmas when people are busy and the message can get buried in other messages/promotionals.

Ozbargain, again in June 2022: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/706519

    • Sneaky company, advertised "no increases for 12 months" and then quietly removed any trace of that from their website and then jacked up prices. Fortunately some nice OzB user had screenshotted it. They recinded the increase after I queried it and said it was out of "goodwill" - how the f is it goodwill for a company to honour their advertised terms, that's what I'd like to know.

  • Same with the engie promo I just signed up to

    Daily Supply Charge Supply Charge
    1.1114400 $/DAY

Off-Peak 9pm - 3pm (AEST), all days during November to March, June to August. All day during April, May, September and October.
    0.3021700 $/KWH

Peak 3pm - 9pm (AEST), all days during November to March, June to August.
    0.5830000 $/KWH

Same ausgrid area so likely an underlying ausgrid change?
As per the update listed here.

Crazy, but whatever, once the $250 is used up I'll be transfering to whatever next promo is around
Definitely not a long term customer with those rates and periods.

Globird’s business model seems to be cheap first contract deal, then abusively high prices on renewal, to capture the lazy.
If you are on the ball, take them for the cheap rates, but plan your churn according to billing cycles to avoid the high rates.
No interest in giving them my business.

  • My advice to my kids getting their own utility accounts when they move out is to be super careful of honey moon deals, and expect to churn before the next contract - and if you think you won’t have the discipline to watch it like a hawk, consider one of the fairer suppliers (like energylocals or diamond energy) who don’t do the predatory acquisition stuff.
It’s a good feeling if you forget to check not to be gouged, even if you pay a fraction more than the constant churning for sign-on bonuses.

  • It's not GloBird that has changed the peak/off-peak times, it's Ausgrid. It could be worse, you could be with AGL who pretend Ausgrid's periods are just a guide.

    Here are some interesting articles.

    • I was with AGL until the I produced demand tarrifs. I've got to be careful who I switch to now

      • AGL and many retailers has dropped demand tariff as of 1st July this year, they all slowly switching to Ausgrid extended peak rate, and from next year probably solar export charge. All of this due to Ausgrid being slack and think the easiest way to make money by raising rate and bogus charge, despite being a government owned public utility company. They should be sold to the Chinese way earlier to get rid of their inefficiency.

        • government owned public utility company
The NSW State Government owns 49.6% of Ausgrid. The rest is various investment companies.

        • That's great to know. A year or more back I found it hard to not get on a demand tarif. It was so brutally punishing.

  • I received an increase notice, will be back on the hunt again in January. How is everyone here getting the best deals here? I see energy made easy government website has had a revamp since i last used it and now uses your meter number to go out and supposedly get your “Best” deals. Apparently its now “Energy Locals” whoever they are.

wattever.com.au comparison site is great if u have solar or batteries.

  • I think its common to build a client base then crank the fees - anyone checked out their Ovo rates lately, its not good.

  • Currently with PowerShop(NSW) EV day plan is lower than this rate with 2 hours free per day.

Jump over for $150 sign-up credits and a $75 referral bonus.

    • Any sign of demand tarrifs. I found some supplies who don't even advertise demand tarrifs force me onto it.

Not demand tariffs, in my previous experience you will need to switch to TOU (time of use) with no demand charge then it can go with only TOU no demand for other retailers.

        • Do you need an EV to get that plan?

  • Extremely average rates for Globird in SA now. Any recommendations?
