Looks like tis time to find another supplier

All suppliers will eventually have to move on price.

You can thank Queenslanders and also NSW. AEMO dashboard

As I write this SA is sending 500MW to Victoria. Victoria adding another 400MW and sending 900MW to NSW.

  • (Peak Usage from $0.28 Per KWh to $0.64 Per KWh)

    Nice hike.

How can people invest in this cash 🐄?

    • Yeah gonna really change my bill - shopping arount at the moment

    Time to move to Origin???

    • thx- BewareOfThe Dog

Origin are Peak $0.21 / KWh in NSW change to SA (where I am) and It becomes $0.41 /KWH
Is fixed though. wonder if the government is going anything to help (in which case going fixed would be a bad Idea)

all of the other suppliers do not have a fixed contract - been spending hours on this rubbish

Energy Australia also have a fixed plan called 'No Frills'.

Yes I got the email too. Splitting rates into summer and winter and more than doubling them in some cases: https://imgur.com/7NdLLW2

The moment I got it I checked out Origin because I know it's big and had a fixed rate plan and swapped over. The supply charge for me will be 5c more than my current rates, but it's a fixed 12 months so I'll take it.

    • What was the package/deal name you were on called?

      • Glosave

        • I will be expecting the same email I guess. I have referred some Ozb members, but I find it ironic that companies like AGL now seem to be cheaper.

            @iNeed2Pee:

ironic that companies like AGL now seem to be cheaper.

They own power stations so they make money on both sides. Keep retail rates lower to win retail customers and sell high on the wholesale markets.

            • @netjock: Weirdly they were always the most expensive though? Wouldn’t you think with the ownership of the power stations they would have been as competitive as others?

                @iNeed2Pee:

Weirdly they were always the most expensive though?

You can't be too cheap else you send the small retailers out of business. Then who is going to buy your electricity at crazy $15k per MWH in the middle of summer when they are found to be exposed (no hedging, no forward contracts).

You sheer the sheep you don't cull it.

Just like big banks and home loans. You price to volume of lending you want. Then you raise it enough to get yourself out of the best buy table to limit the loans you write.

                • @netjock: Thanks for educating me, I honestly get overwhelmed by the different rates and charges by different companies and why we have so many to begin with.
Who are you currently with if you do not mind me asking?

                  • @iNeed2Pee:

Who are you currently with if you do not mind me asking?

                    EA
                    Globird
                    Reamped
                    Momentum
                    AGL

Got many places business and residential. Haven't moved any of these yet.

                    • @netjock: In your opinion who has been the best so far in term of service? Or does it really even matter if your just trying to get the cheapest rate?

                      • +1

@iNeed2Pee: Not that much difference for most people. Just make sure you quote your NIM (meter number) every time and double check it (one site I have 4 meters).

Smaller retailers can't do certain stuff. One place I went from single to 3 phase and they just didn't have the expertise so had to go with Origin (or any of the other big ones like AGL / EA).

    • Thanks for the reminder about fixed rate plans.

I've now also abandoned GloBird for a fixed rate deal with Energy Australia which is only slightly worse than what I had with GloBird.

Thank god for WA and Labor's policy to lock in minimum energy supplies.

I guess the east coast price explosion is what Scomo said wouldn't happen when you let the market guarantee supply when he was pandering to the lobbyists complaining that setting aside a minimum quota would kill the market.

Yet another time the coalition sold out Australians.

Thank god for WA and Labor's policy to lock in minimum energy supplies.

They could do it for Eastern states as WA demonstrated but chicken politicians. If federal Labor doesn't want to be a one term government and LNP can actually get someone decent.

Either way politics just manages to come up with worse and worse candidates.

Reminds me of my power company, which is telling people to change companies. Absolutely disgusting behaviour. They don’t even give you time to leave before they increase the rates yet again.

    • You'll probably find that, much like ReAmped, Globird are giving their customers notice - rates won't go into affect for a couple of weeks.

  • Got two weeks notice on new rates on 1st June.

    Daily Supply Charge c/day 111.87 to 130.79
    Usage c/kWh 23.38 to 44.74
    Controlled Load 2 c/kWh 18.70 to 40.70

With the new rates, your energy plan is:

57% More than reference price. This offer is based on a Residential customer who consumes 6300 kWh a year on a Flat with Controlled Load Tariff in the Energex network. The lowest annual price is $ 2,736.24 (incl.GST). Your bill will differ based on your actual usage.

*All offers at CovaU are open contracts, no early termination fees applied.

Got 15% guarantee off the given rates, but with the new rate even with 15% off, cheaper to change to fixed price provider. Have already moved. BTW in South East Queensland.

    • Who did you move to, if you don’t mind telling?
