[Not Standard Sizing] The RingConn Smart Ring differs from regular standard-sized rings as it features sensors on the inside. Therefore, we recommend using the RingConn Sizing Kit to determine your most comfortable and suitable size. Additionally, it is available in sizes 6 to 14, accommodating various finger sizes.

Does anyone know where I can get a payment ring in Australia? I've been looking for one since BankWest pulled the Halo ring.

Best piece of tech I've ever owned (outside of obvious things like cars and smartphones).

      • Which won't work as a payment ring.

    • a mate of mine installed a pill like chip in his hand, doesn't need his wallet ever again

      • +1

What if they only accept cash. Where does he store his change? Ouch, I really don't want to know. 🍑

        • He will always have his prison wallet

          • @whitlam: I have heard it is a good way to keep fellow prisoners on side, by bringing in a booty full of treasure. And of course hiding contraband for them.

        • I haven't carried cash since the start of 2020 and I haven't run into a situation where a shop only accepts cash. I don't even carry a wallet anymore. When the Qld government gave us a digital driver's licence I ditched the wallet in a drawer at home and only take my phone when I leave the house now.

          • @Name: So you're paying an unnecessary surcharge on every single transaction you make? Whereas a payment on eftpos with a physical card is free in most places. You may need to turn in your OzB badge.

            • @hotphil: Haha I'll have to for sure.

But nah I'm paying for the convenience of not having to carry around cash/card and go out of my way to find an atm to get cash out. 👍 Also living in a big city I very rarely shop at small enough stores that pass on the surcharge. I'd say about 90% of my shops don't do the ~1% surcharge and those stores that do are usually small purchases of less than $20, so over the year it wouldn't be much. I get reamed way more by insurance providers than the surcharge.

Although interestingly I've noticed a few times more recently I haven't been charged the 1.25% fee when it's been displayed at the checkout that there'd be a fee for paying with mastercard. Don't know if it's just laziness on the checkout person or its just there so they can charge it if it's a super small purchase. 🤷

              • @Name: Oh I don't carry cash or need an ATM. Just a card. I insert it and select to pay with eftpos rather than credit/debit for no surcharge. And watch all those other people just tap and pay a surcharge. I dine/drink out a lot and most places do the surcharge thing so it does add up for me. But yeah, I get that people are happy paying for the convenience of not carrying a card.

                • @hotphil: Yeh sounds like I need one of those phone cases that have the spot on the back for a card to be inserted.

      • Untill that card reaches its expiry date

        • Can be reset from what I understand

          • @Headless: the only ones ive seen involve dissolving the card in acetone and putting it in a capsule. hence when it expires, needs a new one.
would be interested in one that doesnt!

    • There isn't one. I assume a regulatory thing.

I looked real hard into it a little while back. Most of them pair with a payment provider like LAKS. But you need a bank account in a country they operate in. And in order to do that you'll have to prove address in one of those countries. Even if you get that sorted you're stuck with payment processing and currency conversion fees.

I had hoped Samsung's ring would carry enough weight for whatever hurdle is hindering Australia to be removed. Guess not.

Most realistic option atm is probably a Garmin Pay device.

  • can u wear these

Reports on Amazon these are not true to the ring size so ?

    • My size 9 gen2 ring is definitely a little larger than the size 9 sizing kit ring, but not size 10 large; probably even smaller than a size '9.5' imo.

  • Do people replace their smart/activity watch with these rings?

Are they interchangeable tech to some extent or are they more like companion techs?

    • I received my Rinconn on Saturday and will keep wearing my Fitbit to compare for a week. Ultimately I got the ring to replace the watch.
