Bad Timing for a New PC (Missed Black Friday - Any Deals for Budget $3,000)

Hi all, my son has a PC ( recycled from me) and it's finally given up the ghost.

I have had many issues with this build, (built by myself on a steep learning curve and also thanks to OzBargain deals, although it has lasted 6 years with a few upgrades) , and it was doing a Windows refresh, where it says do not turn off computer, well after waiting for 1.5 hours for this screen to reboot, it didn't, and I had to turn it off, (trying to get it restarted, figuring it was on the fritz..)

Well it didn't, and it won't restart, bios will not even boot for a troubleshoot, or USB recovery. (Hence the need for a new PC?). Its specs are :

Motherboard Z370 AORUS ULTRA GAMING 2.0
2 x DDR4 16 GB Corsair memory sticks
GEforce 3070 (refurbed from a 2080 ti failure prior)
2 x gen 3 m.2 sticks.

Now I have missed the BlackFfriday/ Cyber Monday deals, is there anything out there that could be worthwhile? Looking for Gaming rig, budget about $3K+ or would it be better to build my own again?

Any and all input would be great.

If the old one is not booting to the bios it is likely a power supply fault. I have had at least three power supplies die on me over the years with no failures of any other components.

Given you are planning to build a new computer, I would buy a new power supply first, swap it out and see if that is the issue. At the very least you can use the exercise to see what you can salvage from the old computer.

  • What deals have you found so far?

    • None as of yet..

Sounds like either the power supply or motherboard.

I'd suggest buying a new PSU (from amazon as they hyave great easy returns and are cheap.) and if still nothing working at all then it's the motherboard which sadly you wouldnt be able to buy since they are long discontinued but if you are inclined to, you could try ebay for a preowned Z390.

  • Is it powering on, but black screen or does not power up at all?

    • powered on , but black screen.

Have you tried to reset the bios either by removing the cmos battery or by shorting the cmos pins?

Other thing to try before buying stuff, boot with 1 stick of memory - to rule out bad ram

entire system is fairly new, would be worthwhile to troubleshoot further

The GPU is worth more than the rest of the system combined (you don't mention CPU, but going to assume it's not a 9900K or something that holds value), for a quick solution something like this would work - https://www.bpctech.com.au/product/kp-nukei7-kraken-mini-nukā€¦ - drop in the GPU and whatever RAM/Storage you want to keep, sell the rest and not too far out of pocket.

Depends whether it's a good time for an upgrade anyway though, or whether the 3070 was already getting maxed out.

Your computer will still work. Try the cmos comment above
