  • Would anyone know if you still get Everyday Rewards points if you're using an AmpolCash gift card to pay at the servo?

I recently scanned my rewards card and the AmpolCash gift card but noticed I didn't get any points. Not sure if it's a system issue or if it's because a gift card was the payment method.

    • +2

Yes, I get points when paying with GCs and when scanning fuel vouchers too.

      • +1

Thanks for confirming. I contacted Everyday Rewards and they said it's a known issue. Gave me 500 points for my time.

    • +4

      It depends.

If you were at a Tasmanian Ampol Foodary or Tasmanian EG Ampol, those will not award Everyday Rewards points on any purchases, as those service stations are currently excluded from the Everyday Rewards program (and have always been excluded, presumably due to the increased Woolworths fuel discount).

If you were at a mainland EG Ampol, scanning an Everyday Rewards card and redeeming an AmpolCash gift card in the same transaction should not affect whether you receive Everyday Rewards points. I have been scanning my Everyday Rewards card and redeeming AmpolCash gift cards at mainland EG Ampol service stations for a few years when purchasing petrol (including earlier this week), and I have always received points instantly after the transaction was finalised.

If you were at a mainland Ampol Foodary, I have actually never scanned an Everyday Rewards card and redeemed an AmpolCash gift card in the same transaction, but I have seen nothing to suggest Ampol Foodary does not allow this. I will note though that Ampol Foodary rarely awards points instantly after the transaction has been finalised, and the Everyday Rewards terms and conditions tell you that it may take up to five NSW business days for points to be credited to your account. The fastest that points from Ampol Foodary have landed in my account has been one business day, but there was one time it took eight or nine business days!

If you were at the Ampol in Exmouth (WA), that should award Everyday Rewards points, as that appears to be operated by Ampol themselves (even though it does not use the "Foodary" branding).

If you were at the Ampol in Castlemaine or Kerang (VIC), I do not think they actually award any Everyday Rewards points (even though the Ampol store locator says it does), because they appear to be independently operated service stations that merely re-sell Ampol fuel.

    • +3

some stores are also independently owned and dont do any rewards programs

      • Independent run stations (where they only sell Ampol fuel) and (non-EG) Ampol franchisees generally don't participate in Ampol Foodary (or EG Ampol) promotions and generally run their own Ampol stations with their own promotions as they see fit.

Apart from Ampol Foodary and EG Ampol, most (non-EG) Ampol franchisees should be able to accept AmpolCash (both physical and digital). Those franchisees can also be highlighted in the station finder by clicking on the "AmpolCash Digital Accepted" filter.

  • Has anyone else found Ampol pretty confusing as far as Everyday Rewards goes? Like some except it, some don't? And what's the difference between EG Ampol, Ampol Foodary etc?

    • +8

Has anyone else found Ampol pretty confusing as far as Everyday Rewards goes? Like some except it, some don't?

I don't find it overly confusing, but that is probably because I wrote the wiki on fuel discounts!

There are three main types of Ampol service stations:

      • Ampol Foodary
      • EG Ampol
      • Any other Ampol service stations

Ampol Foodary service stations in Tasmania are currently excluded from the Everyday Rewards program, which means you cannot earn any Everyday Rewards points nor redeem Everyday Rewards Dollars. However, you can scan your Everyday Rewards card at five of these service stations to redeem the Woolworths fuel discount (which is currently 6c/L), and you do not need a fuel voucher on your Everyday Rewards card to claim this; you can identify this by either looking at the Ampol store locator to see which service stations are marked as accepting the Woolworths Fuel Discount, or by looking at the fuel pylon (i.e. price board) to see whether it says "Save 6c/L with Everyday Rewards card".

All Ampol Foodary service stations in mainland Australia accept Everyday Rewards, where you can earn Everyday Rewards points (but you cannot redeem Everyday Rewards Dollars). Around 36% of these service stations in mainland Australia also accept the Woolworths fuel voucher; you can identify this by either looking at the Ampol store locator to see which service stations are marked as accepting the Woolworths Fuel Discount, or by looking at the fuel pylon to see whether it says "Save 4c/L with Everyday Rewards card".

EG Ampol service stations in Tasmania are currently excluded from the Everyday Rewards program, which means you cannot earn any Everyday Rewards points nor redeem Everyday Rewards Dollars. However, you can scan your Everyday Rewards card at all of these service stations to redeem the Woolworths fuel discount (which is currently 6c/L), but you need a fuel voucher on your Everyday Rewards card to claim this.

All Ampol Foodary service stations in mainland Australia accept Everyday Rewards, where you can earn Everyday Rewards points, redeem Everyday Rewards Dollars, and redeem the Woolworths fuel voucher (currently 4c/L).

At any other Ampol service station, those - other than the Ampol in Exmouth, which appears to have been taken over by Ampol earlier this year - should be independently operated by other franchisees, so they do not formally accept Everyday Rewards. You may have an independent Ampol service station give you a discount if you present an Everyday Rewards card, but that would be because the service station operator has chosen to allow this, rather than them being formally part of Everyday Rewards.

And what's the difference between EG Ampol, Ampol Foodary etc?

Ampol Foodary is a chain of service stations operated by Ampol themselves.

EG Ampol is a chain of service stations operated by Euro Garages (EG). EG bought the Woolworths Petrol chain of service stations in 2018 and took over operations in 2019. EG is an Ampol franchisee, which means they sell Ampol-branded fuel and accept AmpolCash and AmpolCard as payment methods, but EG otherwise operate their service stations as they see fit.

Seriously Wookie, there's nobody quite like you with your knowledge and in-depth responses. THANK YOU.

        • +2

          No worries!

Btw, I just noticed there was a pretty bad error in my original write-up. It was supposed to say:

All EG Ampol service stations in mainland Australia accept Everyday Rewards, where you can earn Everyday Rewards points, redeem Everyday Rewards Dollars, and redeem the Woolworths fuel voucher (currently 4c/L).

          Oops.

      • Ampol service stations with MetroGo cobranding (ie Woolworths) also accept gift cards & participate in the EDR program. They are not explicitly branded as Ampol Foodary but may show up as this brand on google maps.

        All very confusing.

Soon, we will have OTR branded servos all along the east coast too.

        • Ampol removed Woolworths MetroGo branding from their service stations in 2023 and replaced it with Foodary branding. You will not see the Woolworths MetroGo brand on any Ampol service stations anymore, and you will not see that brand used on the Ampol store locator anymore. You will see Woolworths branding on the pylon at EG Ampol service stations and selected Ampol Foodary service stations, but that is only in respect to those service stations accepting the Woolworths fuel voucher.

Yes, Google Maps and some directories still mention Ampol Woolworths MetroGo, but that is because those have not been updated.

        • You do not need NFC to use an AmpolCash Digital gift card, and you do not ask the staff member to pay using “credit”.

To redeem an AmpolCash Digital gift card, you need to tell the staff member you want to use an AmpolCash Digital gift card as a payment method. The staff member apparently needs to select the QR option on their checkout, confirm the amount to redeem and then they need to scan your QR code. The EFTPOS terminal will ask for a PIN, but you just need to press Enter on the EFTPOS terminal.

Alternatively, you can enter the last 10 digits of your AmpolCash Digital gift card (i.e. the numbers after 707678) manually into the EFTPOS terminal. However, there is also an option to enter the 13 digit number for a WISH/Essentials/EG gift card into the EFTPOS terminal, so I wonder whether the staff member chose the wrong option for you to manually enter the gift card number.

My suggestion is that you also take that image down, because anyone could grab that QR code and use that themselves before you have a chance to use it.

          • @WookieMonster: Thanks & repost without image.

Tried to pay for petrol-only but failed: I've $100 AmpolCash Digital GC, added to Wallet phone, NFC-on, ask cashier to pay via credit, but EG-Ampol petrol station can't accept, not-TAS.
Also tried to enter the # manually, but failed. What is the likely caused? Thanks

I understand that any AmpolCash Digital petrol station should accept ? https://www.ampol.com.au/find-a-service-station?services=amp…

  • Not every amplo accept the gift card so be very careful when buying Ampol gift card… !!!

    • +1

They will accept your hidden Vanilla.

      • i didn't got that either… probably staff took it :(

        • Skill issue :D

    • @SydBoy Here is a helpful table from @WookieMonster when I asked a few months ago. The independent Ampol service stations may not accept the Ampol gift cards.

  • Thanks OP

  • +3

Did like a triple stacking with this:
Step 1) Bought a Vanilla Visa from Woolies, preloaded with $500 (10x Everyday rewards points = 2500 Qantas)
Step 2) Used the Vanilla Visa to get $100 Ampol Cash cards from Shopback (currently 6% off)
(Bonus 2 entries to win $100 gift cards from ShopBack.)
Step 3) Will Use the Ampol cards as payment 3 times (minimum $50 spend), get 2250 bonus Everyday rewards points). This is targetted I believe.

    • FFUUUUIIIIIIYYOOOOOOO!!! Uncle Roger come in triple clutch!

      • Technically, quadruple clutch as I got another 10c cashback which I forgot to mention until I saw the comment below

      • The hard part is to refuel at low prices for three times during the promo period. I have gone through the exact procedures this year, but this round is up to bonus 1800 EDR pts. I think up to bonus 2250 EDR pts is probably the best offer among them.

By comparison, flybuys has an one-time offer of 20x pts per litre to some atm, which is equivalent to 12x pts per dollar for E10 or U91 at low prices, about 1800 flybuys pts for $150 in one purchase. Some may already purchased Shell eGC on SB in the same way.

  • Grabbed a couple Ampol cards with extra special 10c bonus!

  • Sorry for the noob question, can we use uber eats gift card for uber (ie for rides)?

    • +1

Yes, both uber and uber eats shared the same uber credits

  • +1

I am a simple man, I see 10% off Uber, I buy hundreds of dollars in vouchers. Thanks OP

  • Clerk told me last time as the Ampol I went to didn't accept woolworths 4c discount, anyone who has a RACV club card also gets 5c off p/L every time just for showing the card.

    • +1

It sounds like you were at an EG Ampol, because I am only aware of EG Ampol accepting the RACV fuel discount offer.

Additionally, you only get a 2c/L discount from the RACV fuel discount offer if you redeem it in conjunction with the Woolworths fuel discount offer.

      • Yep, was the EG ampol at Preston market. And yeah he said the same thing, it must be the other ones where it stacks the the whole total of discounts.

  • When does the upsize expire?
