This would be a Fantastic Deal. Pls share the link.

they think this piece of junk is equal to a blunt umbrella https://www.bunnings.com.au/bunnings-golf-umbrella_p8510111

If you live in Melbourne, you know all umbrellas are not equal.

          • +4

@happykamper: I live in a town that is very elevated, so we experience strong winds and strong storms regularly.
I know for sure that umbrellas are not equal.

          • +3

@happykamper: The number of cheap umbrellas I've bought that have broken in Melbourne, once I bought a better more expensive umbrella - i've not had to replace it since.

            • +3

@jaygee: 100% agree, I must’ve gone through a dozen cheap umbrellas over the years and even a couple of so called decent umbrellas from Amazon that all buckled in strong winds, I bought the metro blunt umbrella a couple of years back on sale for $70 and it’s still going strong.
My only complaint is it’s a bit small but was great when I was catching public transport as it’s so compact. Definitely go for a larger model like this one if you don’t need to carry it around in a backpack/purse.
Blunt are fantastic and the only ones I’ve seen that can compare it are better cost $100s of dollars.
For $60 you can’t go wrong!

Not equal because one is an overpriced junk. I’ve had two and another mate has one. All three broke at the stretcher element through general use.

        • +1

I'm going to go against the grain on this one. I don't know how you guys use your umbrellas, but I've got a cheapie from Arthur Dalys for around $2 maybe 10 yrs ago that's still going strong. It's one of those tiny made-in-China ones which I've used in storms, torrential rains etc, and is still going strong. One or two of the threads might be fraying, but its still held up well. I don't know how you guys broke your umbrellas. Do you not angle the umbrella towards where the wind is blowing?

$2 cheaping umbrella still going strong….

          • +1

@clubhonda: All my umbrellas broke from flipping in strong winds in Melbourne. Bought a blunt just to see what gives - it did flip, but vastly different experience from the feeling you know that the bones are done for. I don't live in VIC anymore, but have found plenty of use for the sun in QLD.

      • Originality just shared it.

  • +1

I like the look but has anyone ever had issues with the rubber handles degrading and becoming sticky and gross over time?

    • Not that I remember. I lost the first one I bought after I think 3yrs. Was still basically like new when I lost it IIRC.
Only had my current one for about 6mths so too early to say

    • +1

Had mine for 6 years and the rubber handle is currently matte; not slick, sticky or gross whatsoever.

      • +1

I wouldn't call the handle rubber either, it's got a little bit of softness to it but it's closer to a hard plastic than it is to rubber

    • I've got a few that are 12-13 months old, and no issues with them in any way so far. All have been used, and 2 of the 3 are generally stored in the car which does get hot and humid inside.

      • +2

in the car which does get hot and humid inside

We don't need to know what you get up to with your Blunt…

    • I have one that is over 10 years old and it is still in pretty great condition. Definitely no issues with the handles degrading.

    • nope had it for five years and still seems to work. i did lose it tho haha

    • I haven’t and I’ve carried it around in my backpack on transport for the better part of 3 years.
I just had a closer look and it’s still looking pretty much new with matte finish, hasn’t even gone shiny or worn.
Have to admit it’s only come out a couple of dozen times since I’ve had it but the handle is exposed to the elements everyday.

    • You can always duct tape it if needed.

    • +2

That's the rubber "melting" from heat or age. Actually I don't know the proper word for it.
You can use a strong cleaner like ipa to dissolve and wipe off with a cloth. It will take a few wipes.

    • The rubber handle on my 10 year old Blunt Golf G2 is still fine, just a bit scuffed from normal use, but not sticky. Do you leave yours in the car or exposed to direct sunlight? Also do you let it completely dry out after using it?

    • Ive had mine for 9-10 years already the rubber handle is just matte, one of the tips broke recently and just got it replaced. Hands down the best umbrella brand around, gutted when I lost my metro in Tokyo, I picked up another metro and exec during the recent black friday deals.

      • I just recently bought a metro and it's no where near at taught and firm as the classic and the other larger models. Is that your experience also? Just wondering if I got a dud

    • The oldest Blunt we own are 10 years, rubber handle is not sticky.

One is stored indoors, the other is always stored in the car in sun to snow.

    orange now oos

  • +6

    nooooo i wanted orangeeee

    • Haha, exactly what I heard myself saying in my head.
Slay have a compact one but I need a larger one for the car, the other one is black and I wanna be noticed ;)

      • I have a red metro, it’s a nice colour and should stand out also.

Ordered it as a classic after also not being able to grab Orange.

$60 for a brolly. I miss the good (not so ol') days when we could get a decent piece for ~$25.

    • +8

Could you ever really get a decent umbrella for $25?
If it was decent you’d probably still be using it, no?

      • I did get one Samsonite branded about 5 years ago for roughly high 20ish…. It is still going strong.

        • The best of all the crappy umbrellas I tried over the years was a samsonite one I bought from Amazon but couldn’t handle one rainy/windy afternoon walking through the park on the way home, buckled beyond recognition but the good thing was Amazon gave me a full refund even though it had been almost a year.
I’m sure they make more than one model though considering how long they’ve been around in the luggage business.
I paid $29.95 for that but full price was close to $100.

  • Thanks, bought 2.
Cheap enough for a quality umberlla, especially after the $10 off $100 spend.

My woodworms still going strong so must resist!

    • My last one just failed me! Can't find anything anywhere near as good value now

      • Bunnings umbrellas?

Had one of the ribs on my Sport snap last week. Customer service is great, free shipping and repair. I bought it directly from them, but I'd imagine it's the same deal from Catch. Will see how it is when they send it back.
Nice to have confidence in a fairly expensive product like this.

  • overpriced and overrated. i bought one because of the hype. double canopy is way better because you will fly away with this, lol.

Perfect for my Mary Poppins costume

Work gave out (company branded) Blunt umbrellas as Christmas gifts one year. Some people were unimpressed, but I managed to nab a second, best gifts they've handed out yet! Good umbrellas.

    • +2

Sheesh no pleasing people. Would of grabbed theirs as well.

Solid umbrellas. Still going strong after 6 years of ownership.

  • Ah missed. I have xiaomi but too heavy and bulky

  • Espresso OOS

UPDATE: Red is now higher than their previously-stated full price. So screw these clowns.

That’s where you are wrong mate. The previous price was sold and delivered by Catch themselves. The price that you’re seeing now is from third party sellers

Sold and delivered by Sydney Umbrellas

I'm happy to die on that hill.

I get people blaming their subbies all the time. I'm not dealing with something changing in the background. So maybe Catch isn't for me. Or Amazon, or whoever else has the appearance of bait & switch.

  • You'd think someone would have come up with a new design for umbrellas by now. It's been, what, centuries? I want one that I can clip onto my backpack, belt or shoulders so I can still use both of my hands. Very hard to carry heavy groceries. Good thing the rain doesn't usually last very long, I can almost always wait it out and starve.

  • Easily the best Umbrella's you can get that i am aware of, i love the one i got a couple of years ago and 'IF' it ever breaks (which i doubt) i would buy again at the drop of a hat. Everything about them is quality.

  • -1

    No longer $80. Deal expired?

  • Dammit. I missed the deal. This is such a good umbrella, my wife has had the same umbrella for almost 10 years now. Even the mad winds in Hobart didn't faze this umbrella. Solid construction. The original version umbrella my wife has has a component near the top which can fail - it's only a cosmetic part of the umbrella, but it has broken a couple of times. First time Blunt sent us the one replacement piece. The second time they sent us a pack of 5 of the replacement piece acknowledging it was a shortcoming of the original design.

I would have loved to pick up a second one for myself for that price, what a bargain.

In the meantime, I've gone through about 5 cheap $10-15 umbrellas that I've had to buy in a pinch. Eventually something fails about the standard brellos, either the cheap fabric rips, or the cheap alumnium framing bends/deforms beyond repair, or the cheap handles crack :(
