What set would you recommend for total beginners (for playing, not collecting) beside pre-built decks? I am new to TCG but not to card games
It's 100% cheaper to buy single cards instead of soley relying on opening booster packs. Most playable decks run 30+ Trainer cards in them and a booster pack only contains 2 at most.
But, if you had to ONLY open packs to get the needed cards, I'd say Temporal Forces and Twilight Masquerade as they have main-stay cards that are a little pricey (Prime Catcher and Teal Mask Ogerpon ex respectively).
Thanks so much for the advice. I am open to all options for a budget deck to start with, mainly to play for fun. Open packs are mostly gambling if I am after specific cards. Gacha games taught me that much
I’ve already got the battle deck academy to learn the game. Plus mewtwo vs dark rai battle deck I got way back then. Will look up some decks to see what I need

- Fezandipiti EX. Probably the most expensive EX you can get afaik, like around $15
- Gold earthen vessel if youre lucky
Yeah buy singles or premade decks like the Charizard Pidgeot one that was released. Genuine meta deck. Fez and Ogerpon ex from this set are popular due to Raging Bolt EX deck
