You could do far worse than this for all your black friday weekend vinyls, or a nice festivus gift - decent get if you dont want to go the vintage used route.

Don't forget to knock another tenner off the price if it's your birthday again ;)

Nice write up here from MasterScythe.

Have this one at home does a great job

    • what did you pay/how long have you had it?

      • I've had one for two years and it's still going strong. It was $299 when I bought it. :/

        • sounds like you use it enough to make the price still worth it…as time goes on and the more you keep looking you will eventually find a cheaper price on (almost) anything!

          • +1

@QuickToThePointless: Yeah exactly. I was years without one so I just bought it locally when I decided to play my old vinyl again. Probably could've got it cheaper elsewhere but I couldn't be bothered at the time.

I just realised mine is the Bluetooth model, as well. Got it paired with Edifier R1380DB and it sounds lurverly.

            • @Dogstar: Plays vinyl for analogue warmth, converts to compressed digital signal? :D

      • +1

I got it from good guys commercial for abit more had it for a year maybe abit more

  • Any speaker advice to pair this with?
    This will be gift.

A pair of Edifier bookshelf speakers, imo.
      I use these

I work in a record store and we pair the LP-60X/BT with the edifier 1700BT in a package, probably sell about 2-3 packages a week.

really great speakers and the BT option on the TT means you dont need to have everything on the same shelf - or even the same room, if you are tight on space.

we do the R2000DBs as upgrade speaker options too.

        • Nice, yeah I've been very happy with them

    • +13

these active edifer bookshelfs or similar ones will do the job for under $100

personally I would hunt down vintage 1970's-1980s Japanese made amp + floor standing 3-way speakers from scumtree or farketplace…but i would also probably hunt down a vintage turntable too!

look for pioneer/marantz/sony/panasonic /technics form that era if you wanna go that way

      • My Ariston RD80 with Linn Basik arm and Rega cartridge loves this comment. The RD80 is a bit like a cheaper Linn LP12 - I well remember hearing them alongside a Rega Planar III so many years ago in the UK

Will be letting it go soon as we "downsize"

      • For the type of people buying these, they're probably not buying a used amplifier - at least for now. I do agree that an amplifier is significantly better then the inbuilt one - I'm glad audio technica gave us an option for both on this.

also, you are a very generous gift giver - wish you were my secret santa this year!

    • Wouldn’t go astray with something like this https://addictedtoaudio.com.au/collections/bookshelf-desktop…

If you gonna spent $189 on this turntable, im not sure that $3000 speaker and amp is the right audience haha - I do love the suggestions tho. Keep them coming!

Good deal - currently listed at $179 at TGG Commercial if you've got access (and dont have a $10 JB perks voucher).

I recently picked up the version of this that has BT (LP60XBT) for $241 from TGG commercial as a christmas gift for my old man.

dad will be happy, you are a good boy!

    • JB Perks!!! Forgot all about this!

These turntables do have a bit of an issue with speed and speed adjustment. For me I noticed that it was slightly fast (compared to playing a streaming version from my phone songs were 2 or 3 seconds short). I did a bit of research and found others with similar issues. There is a tiny screw you can get access through the bottom but it's a pain to adjust and I ended up only making it worse. On top of the fact that it was skipping excessively on some records (even with a brand new needle), I went out looking for a new turntable.

I ended up spending a lot more on the new turntable, plus amp and speakers, but it's a great setup and it doesn't skip on the same records.

    • That’s why I like vintage gear. I have a Technics SL-B202 which has a stroboscope built in as well as a speed adjust.. Quartz Lock in a new table would be amazing tho..

      • +1

My LP60x was good with speed - new turntables can definitely have speed adjustment but you're paying for it.

Old turntables are both good and bad, I had a Telefunken CS-10 which was great until the direct drive motor started having issues which gave me a lot of flutter. I eventually got a Technics SL1200 Mk5 which has been great and many mods and replacement parts available which is nice.

  • Nice price.
I picked up a LP70XBT for my son today but was only 25% off :(

I have had this, it is excellent. but vinyl are too expensive.

Wait for sales and/or go used - garage sales, Facebook marketplace, Facebook groups, etc

Buying from JB Hi Fi - unless there's a good sale isn't worth it 99% of the time.

Ebay is also a good place if you're happy to wait - they're usually priced relatively well in comparison.

    • If that's the case , why ?

This was my first turntable around 4 years ago, it's an amazing entry level option or for a parent or someone who's interested in LP's. For this price it is quite honestly amazing, you won't get anything better at this price ever.

It has automatic start and stop with auto return - though you can start it in the traditional way if you like.

It does both 12's and 7's.

It won't damage your LP's - too many cheap tables do.

The stylus is cheap and easy to replace so if you damage it / wear it out, it's not a biggie.

It has a phono stage in it - e.g you can connect straight to speakers, or use an amplifier (for better sound quality / volume) if you desire.

You don't need to worry about the speed of it, it's calibrated.

The only two downsides I can really think of are that it feels cheap and the felt slip mat that it comes with needs to be replaced with a cork or rubber mat which are both inexpensive but a massive upgrade as it will prevent static and slip less.

I ended up selling this to someone I vaguely know used for like $160 - I got a Telefunken CS-10 which was modded but it eventually had issues so got a nice SL1200 Mk5 and run an Ortofon Blue these days.

Just wanted to say I really appreciate comments like yours that help a beginner like me finally pull the trigger to get this! Cheers

      • +1

I'm glad to help! There's a lot of information out there and whilst I'm no expert on turntables I went through owning one of these and starting a collection haha.

Enjoy your new turntable! Make sure you don't touch the stylus and ensure you read the instructions.

As for the slip mat - this is a lot better, I should have added it in my original comment - apologies.

There are better options again like acrylic if you're keen but for $20 and grabbing it while you're there this is ideal.

  • Wow. Great deal. Already have Essential Pro-ject II and the Sound Burger. Must resist. This is fully automatic though which is a most welcome and handy feature indeed. Mmm.

    • Where are you gonna put 3 turn tables? When I got my second I basically stopped using my first. So think about that.. not worth having multiple imo

      • Just want the auto function mainly. No need to rush when the needle reaches the end. Also when a stacker comes back, I'll be wanting to buy that too.

  • Thank you @Matt86 Ordered one. Always wanted to get back into Vinyl. Now I can pickup the Midnight Oil Vinyl Collection …. speaker suggestions?
