The Good Guys Click and Collect Process Dodginess - Knowingly Overselling / over Promising

Ordered an item on TGG for click and collect.

Received confirmation that the item was ready for collection.

I went there to pick it up and was told they are out of stock. Apparently the click and collect system doesn't assign stock to you, it sends a notification to everyone who has one on order and it's first come first serve.

Is this normal? Is it even legal? I bought through them because they advertised it as being in stock.

That is dodgy and, IMO, not normal

Every company I've used for click and collect has collected the item from the shelf before sending an SMS. On arrival, it's generally a matter of fetching the item often with a collection slip attached.

yeah it is weird…every click and collect ive ever done has some kind of documentation with it, and then gets scanned out…so you'd assume there was a pick and scan step too…

      not normal

      Hardly normal ?

Hardly Normal have acted more like professionals surprisingly

    Doesn't sound right at all.

    What store was this?

  • That seems quite strange. I ordered a freezer from TGG, got the text message saying ready for collection an hour later, and it was picked from shelves and placed in the entrance of the rear warehouse door ready to load into car. So definitely not the same experience.

  • I've done TGG C+C before and the item was ready for me with my name when I went in to collect.

    What was the item?

  • +3

    Thomastown store in Vic.

There was another person in the queue who was told the same thing, for a different item.

    • What item did you order?

      • A creami delux

        • well its in stock now according to their website

But rather than complain to Ozbargain, what happened when you called the main GG online support group

when you called the main GG online support group

Governor General is currently on holidays…

@RockyRaccoon: They've committed to posting one out from a store which has stock.

It's not the end of the world

        • Recently got my creami delux, loving it!! Hopefully you get yours soon.

I would bet this isn't the process and just an excuse to cover for someone's f**k up. I'm sure if you called head office they'd have a different opinion.

    • It was probably the last one and someone in store snaffled it during the process.

Never had that dodgy experience with any of the major white goods type stores. I have with a smaller group. Drove miles for SFA.
OPs problem seems like it's the 'human element' in store.

They're definitely supposed to have it picked and ready when you get the message saying it's ready for collection. But what can happen is that someone can see your item and just grab it and sell it to another customer. It happened with an airfryer I ordered via click and collect.

That doesnt sound right. Click and collect is supposed to allocate out an item, put it aside and stick your invoice on that item so it is clear whose is whose upon collection.

  • They double sold it.

Sounds like another salesperson person sold it for that sweet sweet commission. I would ask for free delivery to my residence

I would ask for free delivery to my residence

Why would the OP want it sent to your residence?

      💯

  • On another note, a TGG store in SA regularly asks to see your/my PayPal transaction ID on click and collect orders. I'm pretty sure most customer would be hung up on this and spend a few minutes trying to figure it out…

  • I think it was TGG that gave me the run around all around the store to collect my order. I commented that I won't bother again, but the salesperson said no, it's worth it to ensure the item is in stock. But it sounds like it doesn't even achieve that.

Poor management a staff member most likely not notified to remove item from shelf or staff member told they got distracted. Item then sold to another customer

  • I was buying from TGG yesterday and their internal stock system has negative numbers allocated for out of stock items based on orders made. If that isn't an indicator they're having supply chain problems then I don't know what is.
