  • Is a transfer from another provider eligible for the points?
    Cheers

    • +1

Yes, you just sign up with Medibank and cancel your previous provider.

      • Thank you 🙏

      • How does churning health insurance work, do they auto cancel old one like utilities? Or do I have to manually cancel on the day the new one gets set up?

        • -4

Manually cancel the old. There is no linkage or churning.

Personally I keep my existing health cover and just double up for the 28 days. It's less cost effective but I have some grandfathered discounts with my not for profit insurer that I would like to keep.

          • +1

            @Nuggets:

grandfathered discounts with my not for profit insurer that I would like to keep

There is 100% no way that these grandfathered discounts save you more than regularly churning.

Following the 'pay 1 month, get 6 weeks free' equates to a discount of around 58%.

            Your logic is flawed.

            • @YesPleaseThankYou: I’m not interested in changing cover provider every other month. It makes my life more complicated than I care for.

Go for it though if it makes you happy and saves you a buck. I was just sharing my perspective.

I have the maximum age based discount and providers are not obliged to recognise your previously held age based discount.

              • @Nuggets:

When you turn 41, the discount is reduced by 2%. So if you had an existing 10% discount, this reduces to 8% when you turn 41. For each further year, the discount is reduced by a further 2% until it reaches 0%.

Churning is simple. I usually churn after about 2½ months (pay 1 month get 6 weeks free offers).

You're overpaying for the sake retaining a tiny discount. Good on you!

        • +3

Yes, it auto cancels just like utilities

          • -1

@BargainMe: Thanks, TIL. I think that’s only when you request the previous to be closed though, I have held multiple covers concurrently and the previous does not auto close.

        • +1

They'll ask if you want them to cancel your current policy. If you agree to this, you provide your policy details. Very easy.

  • +6

Can't find anywhere mentioning about 6 weeks free on their website. Only the points.

    • Sorry, I reused a previous deal and thought I had removed all mentions of 6 weeks free. Fixed

      • -1

Reused? What else is wrong in your post then?

        • Big talk for someone who has posted two deals in their 15 years on the platform. Jog on mate and stop being a knob to people who are posting for the good of the community.

          • -1

@Nuggets: And look at all the tips I have offered.

Posting a crap deal (like the one you have posted) isn't doing good for anyone.

I mean, you can't even work out good value for your own circumstances.

            • @YesPleaseThankYou: Just because you don’t see the value doesn’t mean it isn’t good value for others.

For my circumstances this deal is better than the most recent where 6 weeks free were included and half the live better points.

28 days of extras (not interested in the hospital cover) is long enough to see the dentist and get new glasses and perhaps see the physio if I need. Cash outlay is minimal and in return I receive the healthcare and the $1000 worth of points on top.

The six weeks free offer required 42 days of cover to be held and only offered half of the points. Easily worse value for me.

Although, you said it was a crap deal, so it must be true.

              • @Nuggets:

I receive the … $1000 worth of points

                But see:

Singles and single parents will receive 50,000 Live Better rewards points, and families and couples will receive 100,000 Live Better rewards points.

To get your $1000 worth (of shitty Live Better points) redeemable for a very limited range of products and services you'd need to hold a family policy Bronze hospital and extras cover and above.

Are you single but getting family cover? Plus you're keeping multiple policies active. Are you claiming your extras at the two different insurers?

                • @YesPleaseThankYou: i think it's a good deal, 50k points almost gets you an apple watch 10. maybe you need to stfu

              • @Nuggets: Now that I put some further thought to this, if you are holding multiple hospital policies, you are claiming the government rebate for two policies concurrently. My understand is that this is not permitted.

I'll read up the regulations when I have more time. Let's hope that someone from a fund will chime in here and clarify :)

          • @Nuggets: Oh, why did the OP mark this 'deal' as expired?

All their multiple policy secrets exposed?

  • +2

28 days is misleading when you have to wait 8 weeks for the points

    • -1

You can close your account after 28 days, the live better account lives on separately and will get the points in due course. You don’t need to maintain the cover until the points are credited.

      • -1

        Too risky.

Medibank customer service is almost as bad as Bupa's.

As a regular churner, and without 6 weeks free, this is no deal from me 🛑👎

      • +1

Live better account is automatically deactivated if you don't have an active policy

        • +1

Yes, you are correct.. it automatically deactivates post cancellation of cover

    • -1

Please report Medibank to the ACCC for this misleading promotion.

  • +1

Terrible company. Joined 6 months ago and they still can't fix my waiting period.
How do you escalate complaints with this mob? Should I go to a branch as their phone support is useless.

    • Contact the Private Health Insurance Ombudsman.

  • Why is this marked as expired? Promo code still works during checkout?

    • Maybe because the 6 weeks free isn't a thing.

      • You’re right though the OP admitted their mistake and edited the post. As far as anyone who looks at the post now, it never happened.

    • -1

Have a read of the OP's subsequent posts. There's much going on.

Negged all my posts and moved on.
