Slow Wi-Fi Network

Hey all, I don't know much about routers and Wi-Fi in general.

At the moment our home currently has 2 networks, Tenda and Tenda 5G. The problem is my bedroom is on the 2nd floor and has trouble connecting to the networks. Both networks run quite slow when I tested them with internet speed test.

Is there any way I can increase my Wi-Fi speed?

Have you done an ethernet test? Does it give better results?

What type of network hardware are you running?

Do a speed test via CloudFlare SpeedTest and compare results (especially the packet loss area).

I like your use of cloudflare!

Also consider reading this recently forum thread where their issue was DNS related.

A couple of factors at play:
    1. What ISP and what speed subscription are you on?
    2. I used Tenda and while it worked, it was patchy frequently. I switched to Deco mesh system and it has a lot better range and speed stability. The more you pay for a mesh router will likely be a better and stable connection however there's no point switching to a top model if you're on a 50/20 connection anyway. Placing the routers in optimal positions of the property will also improve your connection so I would test using your phone which routers are not getting ideal speeds

  • First of all, what router you got now?

Both networks run quite slow when I tested them with internet speed test.

Is it compare to ground floor?

The problem is my bedroom is on the 2nd floor and has trouble connecting to the networks.

Perhaps try a Mesh system (eg tp-link-deco), they are getting cheaper these days.

  • my bedroom is on the 2nd floor

Is that the top of a 3-storey house, or are you speaking American?

Maybe another OzBargainers Google TV has become self aware and connected to your network to download ads and trailers and slowed down your wifi.

Is both networks from the 1 modem / router?

Is your internet speed on wifi fine near the modem router? If yes then might be a wifi issue. If no check out your ethernet with a cable into a laptop

Wifi (if it is okay) else use ethernet then test using cloudfare per link above?

If you singled out the wifi then borrow a router and plug it into ethernet port and see if it is modem specific? If not modem specific it might be too many walls to go through

If too many walls maybe borrow a mesh kit and try one in the current modem location and second one on the floor above.

You get the ideal. Narrow down whether your problem is with each component and if it isn't then maybe too many walls and you might need a mesh kit. yeah a bit of work but better than blindly applying solutions to a problem you might not have.
