  • Worked for me, even though I didn't receive an invitation.

  • Worked for me - no invititation either

  • Yep same as above.

  • Nice, thanks OP.
    Returning member and it worked.

    • Returning member and it worked for me too.

  • +2

At $6.45 it's totally worth it, the normal price of $16/month I just couldn't justify. Thanks OP.

    • +5

If you're happy with just receiving 1 credit per month (and not the other premium stuff), the standard plan is now $8.99/mth.

      • +1

You don’t get to keep your purchases (redeemed with credit) on the standard plan after you unsubscribe though.

Just cancelled after 5 years last month, ran out of interesting things to listen to, any good recommendations?

    • +2

Artemis by Andy Wier is a favorite of mine

      • +4

I much preferred Project Hail Mary by Andy

        • +1

I couldn't get into PHM.. did nothing for me whereas i've listened to artemis probably 5 times so far

          • @Tejas57: Fair enough, I was the exact opposite and just didn't get into Artemus, guess reactor-au needs to try both

        • +1

enjoyed PHM, I'll have to check out Artemis

          • +1

@impoze: Bobiverse books are a decent listen if you enjoyed PHM. Same narrator as well.

    • What do you like? Non fiction, fiction? Genres, subjects?

      • +10

As you have not mentioend what you normally listen to - I will slap on some of my personal favourites (some of the are full cast performances and free on Audible plus!): -

        1. Expeditionary Forces (17 books - if you like science fiction/comedy then you are guaranteed to like Skippy the Magnificent)
        2. Ready Player One
        3. Sherlock Holmes: The Definitive Collection 'performed by Stephen Fry!
        4. Harry Potter collection - if you like listening to Stephen Fry!
        5. Greek Mythology by Stephen fry (4 books)
        6. Graveyard Classified (3 books) by Desmond Doane for horror fans
        7. World war z
        8. The Sandman - if you like the Netflix show you will love the 2 books by Neil Gaiman. This is a performance and not just a read.
9 - Almost all Stephen King books
          10 - Dune 1st three books
        9. American Gods
        10. Name of the Wind - Patrick Rothfuss (only 2 books out from this trilogy - the third book has been in the works for more than a decade. The first book on its own is delightful)
        11. Battlefield earth - I was not expecting to enjoy this but it turned out to be an awesome performance.
        12. The Exorcist - William Peter Blatty's voice gave me the chills

Audible plus - Full cast performance
Moriarty (2 seasons)- A wonderful 'What if' on the Sherlock Holmes phenomenon
Impact Winter (3 seasons) if you like Vampires and stuff.

EDIT: Sorry responded to the wrong post.

        • +1

If you enjoyed Impact Winter, you must give "We're Alive" go!

        • great list!

love ExForce. those books are all 20hours or so too.

I've just started the Stephen Fry Greek books too.

I'd add that a lot of the Star Wars EU(legends) books are being redone in unabridged format too. the X-Wing series is up to 7 or 8 (out of the 10).

        • I've got most of the Stephen Fry books, and the harry potter and Sherlock Holmes ones were among the first fiction I purchased,I will check out expedition forces

        • Really good list! The ones I've tried out of this list are some of my favourites.

    • +1

Kinda depends on what you're into
I loved Ready Player One and (to a lesser extent) Two, The Harry Potter books, just starting to get into Rivers Of London, and the Dungeon Crawler Carl series which really got me started on litrpg with He Who Fights With Monsters (does get a bit tedious at times) and Everybody loves large chests. Then there are The Expanse books, The Martian (I like anything read by Wil Wheaton), The Legend of Drizzt: The Collected Stories (listening to Ice-T is always good) , and I really enjoyed the audiobook of A short history of nearly everything

      • How do the expanse books compare to the tv show?

    • +2

For IT professionals, I would recommend this non-fiction:
      * Anything from IT Revolution/IT Revolution Press
      * Anything from Manning Publications
      * Anything from Pearson/Pearson Education
      * Clean {code, coder, architecture, agile} series by Robert C. Martin
      * The Pragmatic Programmer: 20th Anniversary Edition, 2nd Edition by David Thomas & Andrew Hunt
      * Peopleware by DeMarco Tom & Lister Tim
      * Modern Software Engineering by David Farley
      * The Mythical Man-Month: Essays on Software Engineering, Anniversary Edition by Frederick P. Brooks Jr.
      * Building Microservices by Sam Newman
      * Software Engineering at Google by Titus Winters, Tom Manshreck, Hyrum Wright

      • Interesting,I hadn't considered any technical books because they usually have code examples etc

    • The Blacktongue Thief, followed by The Daughters War by Christopher Buehlman are great novels.

    • Born a Crime by Trevor Noah. As its narrated by Trevor, it adds so much to a very good book.

    • have you tried the Dune series?

  • +1

A FYI for anyone with Spotify Premium: there’s a decent selection of audiobooks included in the subscription

  • thanks, great timing as I was about to buy a credit.

  • Graphic Audio range is also great

    • Mistborn
    • Red Rising
    • Dungeon Crawler Carl
    • Graphic Audiobooks are seperate to what's available on Audible though, right?

There's a graphic audiobook for Lord of the Rings lurking on the internet which is incredible.

      • I thought you could use credits on them

        • You might be right actually, you can get the graphic Audiobooks but it looks like a limited selection.

I remember listening to Brandon Sanderson's - The way of kings graphic audio version but I had to get it from another source. It does not appear available on Audible so I might just have assumed audible don't do the Graphic Audio range of audiobooks, but some of them are available.

  • +2

Thanks, I will grab this even without an invitation.

Also, Libby is an app that allows you to access the range of audiobooks available from your local library network, highly recommend as a way to save your audible credits on audiobooks that are not already available for free via Libby

  • GREENLIGHT !

  • Great Deal! Assuming you have to let it run the full 4-months? Ie. can't cancel early, but pay for the 4-month deal.

Hate getting locked in, just in-case i forget to cancel lol, but will probs do it.

    • You can cancel anytime and not locked in for 4 months. They bill each month and not a 4 month in advance fee. However, yes, you will need to remember to cancel at some point during month 4. It will remain active through to last day of paid period so not a case of having to cancel one day out.

      • Yeah I meant to get 4-months worth of $6.45, you would need to stay on minimum 3 months and 1 day right?

        • +1

          Yeap.

          • @Borg: Yep thought so, just gotta remember to turn it off 😅

            • +1

@geeaad: I always set calendar reminders for subscriptions as too hard to remember them!

  • Currently, Audible US is offering 3 months for $0.99USD/month and a $20 bonus voucher, which some may prefer.

    • Am guessing that must be user targeted. Nothing showing on my USA account nor any email received.

    • I think that may be new users only

  • If your a RPG gamer some books I would recommend. (Outside the suggestion list above)
He who fights with Monsters (15 books)
    Dungeon Crawler Carl (6 books)
    Battleborne (4 books)
All very similar Genre but different enough to thoroughly enjoy!

  • guys , just go to audible US, Canada, UK and germany. 1 credit 1 dollar for 3 months. use the same login data as AUD. much better deal

    • New customers only isn't it i.e. if you haven't signed up via that country before?.
Books purchased there don't show up on other accounts (in case that matters).
