Cheap pair of smart plugs with energy monitoring at $10 each. Arlec from Bunnings with easy returns is better than Laser which many don't trust. Compact size.
Australian standards approved. 240V 10A.

I returned mine after it failed and got a full refund and it was well over a year. Should be covered under ACL.
Seems out of stock in Sydney.
in stock in Kingsgrove, Ashfield and Rockdale
can't wait until sydney gets a second bunnings
Ideas for uses?
Thinking hot water system for power usage, christmas tree light timer, what else could I use them for?
dishwasher, washing machine, dryer finished notification (reqs home assistant or similar)
wake up comptuers remotely, etc
Lamps, heated blankets, pedestal fans, oil heaters, fairy lights etc.
everything in your house that plugs in for power monitoring
Hot water systems are usually hard-wired.
Can be good for turning on a heater before you get home, or to restart a modem or other finnicky electronics on a regular timer.
The power usage can be used to detect (via home assistant) if an appliance has finished.
I would be surprised if your hot water system is not hard wired
and also assuming you don't use natural gas as VIC banned that
I have a heat pump HWS and it runs off a 10A outdoor gpo
ya new ones are alright classic electric usually hard wired with 15A switch
I have these for Christmas lights. They have a good range, so I use them for the outdoor lights also.
These are ok, I find the Grid connect app pretty crap though. Very buggy, common errors and very cheap looking.
manage them direct through Tuya app
Might try that. Thanks
the EKO ones from BigW that I purchased a couple of years ago have all died…showing offline. they only work after turning the GPO switch off and back on again a couple of times…
looks like similar experiences above…are these ones more reliable?
Usually flicking the switch on and off a few times resets the device. If you’ve been doing that, the device is possibly okay, but just dropped out of the tuya app.
Try running through the initial setup process again and see if you can get them to sync back up
gees, and to realise i started a whole bunch of sales for both these and the laser ones - only cos i was chatting to someone at work about how the laser ones are cheap when i got them at $15 and then i saw them at $10.49 and then this and now theyre all OOS probably :D
been this price for a while, limited-ish stock at many location but heaps at others
can i attach plug of Daikin 14kw ducted heating/cooling to this to check to check its power consumption?
N O . This is 2400W maximum for standard power points only. A large ducted system like that can draw 4000W of power. Very unsafe.
thank you very much.
lol they're rated for 10 amps so 2.4kw. i plugged a 15 amp car charger through one (so 3.6kw) and it worked for a while but ended up melting something inside and the relay won't click on anymore
a "14kw" a/c probably draws about 4.5kw of power, i doubt it even has a plug on it you could plug in? even if you could it wouldn't work for long.
thank you very much. how do you calculate 4.5kw of power from 14kw a/c?
Air conditioners have a coefficient of performance of about 3x. They can move 3x as much heat energy as they use in electricity. This means that to output 14kW of cooling capacity will require 5kW from the wall.
(Likely much less than that because aircons are always massively oversized. My "7kW" living room AC uses between 15W-500W normally and only goes up to a max of 2kW when you set it to max power)
@Ezekiel2320: Thanks
best to get a din rail energy meter as your system would be hard wired to your switch box
I have a couple of these and they're very unreliable. The timer function works fine but they're always showing as offline. I have to open the app on my phone, wait a few seconds and then they'll go online. This means they won't work with Google assistant until I manually open the app, which defeats the purpose.
I have some Brilliant plugs that are much better.

Never had an issue with this. Maybe you have some sort of internet/WiFi issue?
I noticed mine would be delayed especially when my internet had a bit of high latency.
got 2 genio ones, both blew up powering my dual boiler coffee machine in the span of 1 year?
can someone recommend something of better quality?
I have a couple of the tp link ones. Never unboxed them because someone said in a previous threat that they are a fire risk.
Any better quality alternatives available that are safer? From the comments here, these have a high failure rate.
Never heard of the Fire Risk….. I've had the TP Link ones, but they died. I use them on low voltage items though, nothing that is pulling 10A constantly.
if you got the ones I got from the Amazon deal they broke after a year and after 2 years I was managed to get a full refund from Amazon and they even paid for postage
Can these be reflashed with ESPHome?
EDIT: Apparently yes, but seems about as painful if not more as old Kogan/Crest plugs: https://devices.esphome.io/devices/Arlec-PC191HA-Plug
How much are these normally?
$15 to $20 each.
The problem is the thickness though… Once it's put on a 2 socket PowerPoint, the other one gets blocked unless it's a wide board.
it's not a problem though, i have 2 plugged in side by side on a standard powerpoint
Ok then.. must be my thick-ass powerplug that doesn't fit..
You can always use a power board or double adaptor
End of the day it's in 10A for the entire Power Point
Is this the normal price?
$10/each is a good price, but if this is the normal price, then this isn’t a deal…
show me where you can get it cheaper than $10 each then
It's just normal price. I bought this in Sep for $20…
Thanks OP. Was looking for another smart plug since all mine were in use. Perfect to set up timed Christmas lights.
I am confused, for those without Google or Aexia, what do you use these for?
Automation through the Tuya app. That is what I do for mine. I don't have Google, Alexa or any other home automation. All via the Tuya app.
I have some of the Mirabello stuff as well, like the door sensors. Examples I have are:
6:45am turn on Turtle and Bearded Dragon lights
wouldn't they be too bright to see until sundown?
No. The animals are inside and they require UVB and Heat Lamps.
@geekcohen: lmao I thought it was a turtle & bearded dragon garden light outside
@Poor Ass: No, a living Turtle and Bearded Dragon. Turning on their required lights.
@geekcohen: yeh I know now
are they separate or in the same enclosure
@geekcohen: do you need a licence to keep those animals?
@Poor Ass: Yes. For the Dragon, just a basic wildlife license. Our specific Turtle does not require a licence, but some do. We are VIC-based; I believe it can vary from state to state.
Very similar license / requirements for most snakes.
Sunrise - Turn on Office Downloads
is that just a computer?
Sorry, typo. Downlights.
Computer runs 24/7.
Sunrise - Turn on Office Downloads
Correction downlights.
Right so everything is controlled on the app?
Grid Connect app. Set times etc.
Almost zero stock in SA.
Power of OZb lol
I have 4 of these from Bunnings which enable me to track electricity usage of each device on my iPhone Grid Connect app (talking to my home wifi) - not only the current usage in voltage, amps and watts, but also the history in total kWh for each month and days since first installed. I can switch the device on/off remotely by simply tapping the on/off switch icon, and I can see and do that right now from overseas on the other side of the globe. Works for me.
As we have some experts here, it just occurred to me to wonder how much power the plug itself might use - I imagine very little - coupla watts ? Anyone know ?
I assume don't plug these to your fridge / freezer when you are away for a long time as when they break / turn off by itself it's unable to transfer power to the appliance and then all your food is gone
Had a BigW Crest one died recently, but it's the one with 2 USB-A ports as well. Didn't bother going back to BigW (maybe it is already over 1 year), just chucked it into a bin.
