if you can find it stocked on the shelf with the strikes happening :P

    • Ya… OOS everywhere nearby 😔
And they don't give raincheck anymore…

      Exactly this…

I blame you're greens! In Qld reprobate workers get sent down coal mines.

  • +1

I wonder what's the remaining 1% that needs import? The plastic bag? Or the salt?

    • Yeah likely the salt, prolly chinese or US. Haha hopefully not the microplastics :P

    • +2

It's probably legal telling marketing to cover their ass.

    • +10

      it's the Hash

      • +1

Best hash I ever had was packed in plastic just like these.

        • In a hash brown packet?

      • +1

        Its the Brown !

    • 99.9% sure it's the dextrose.

  • +1

Can strongly recommend the quick-cook hash browns if you can find them. Much crunchier and done in 1/3 of the time in the air-fryer compared to these ones.

    • I assume that’s because they’re already cooked more, ie. more oil/fat.

      • +2

If you're going to go for a hash-brown, might as well make it a good one!

      • +1

you're eating hashies, it's not like healthy eating is at the top of your mind :-)

    • +1

      Are these the triangular ones?

      • +1

        Correct.

        • Gtk. I do prefer a slightly soggy HB, but reduced cooking time is very appealing. Looks hard to find in colesworth online atm (there were only 3x options atmy local Woolies, didn't see them) but will keep an eye out.

  • 1% Real Hash

    • +6

😄 What is a better comfort food than fried potato? I do love a good home-made HB, done well if the spud gratings are squeezed well and seasoned, but the price of EVOO these days…

      • +6

When we do mashed potatoes, if there’s any left it goes into the fridge for tomorrow. Tomorrow involves shaping them in egg rings, flouring both sides, then frying them up in an oily pan. Served with fried sausages and chicken patties.
Well until we get our hands on these, maybe no more leftover mashed potatoes.

What do you mean is this what people eat these days?

Hash browns have apparently been around since the 1800s.

      How old are you?

      • +13

Back in my day we are potatoes straight from the ground as nature intended

Back in my day we are potatoes straight from the ground

I’ve heard about the stork and the cabbage patch, but never this amazing origin story. Potato people.

Good these finally going back on special. I bought them at half price in Coles a few weeks ago, I don’t think they were in the catalogue.

    • Oo really! Good find! ~$2.90??

  • +2

Can't upvote any Woolworths specials while they're incapable of selling them.

Area these hash brownies? Would lobe t0 eaT a fews

  • These are seriously not too bad. I just keen to put them in AirFryer with some Olive Oil spray from Coles.Atleast it sucks up all the Oil & makes it a greater option to eat. Try it folks

    • +8

It's already full of oil, why add more…?

    • They're full of veg oil already. How does adding olive oil make it great again?

  • oooh good deal

  • +1

I bought these before and they were WAY too salty imo. Buyer beware.

    • +1

Whats salty is me being unable to buy this deal

      • That's good, otherwise you'd become Fattest Grump

      • EDIT: Compared to birdseye and other hasbrowns this has 25% MORE sodium. So it's not just me.

    • Gtk. Will assess when I crack them open.

    • Tried them, was tempted to add more salt, and i'm not really a salt adder. YMMV.

      • +1

I'm impressed, might actually be a lack of sweetness. Sometimes when there is so much salt, you crave sweetness.
Anyway the back of the packs per 100g sodium is high, so objectively high salt.

  • Have these been affected by shrinkflation?

  • I like these "oval/boat" shape ones the best. Aldi home brand used to be these but has since changed to these circular potato cake style ones. And forgot the brand but the one I'm trying now is the old school squarish ones but they are too thin, compared to these anyway.

Pity I don't fancy myself finding any stock…

    • +1

Aldi hash browns are now imported from Belgium. They contain onion powder and my kids can't stand them.

      • +1

That explains the taste change. I can probably handle that part as such but the surface texture (like the "crust" of the hash) isn't good anymore either.

      • Also stopped buying ALDI ones when they changed over, the flavour of the oil is just strange

    • Aldi changed most their frozen potato products to being sourced from Belgium during the potato shortage earlier. They used to be Australian made. I dont like the Belgian made ones, its not just potato, oil and salt, they have other stuff like onion powder and it doesn't taste the same.

  • +1

I went to my local and they have heaps in stock. Everything else around it was sold out/no stock though

    Cheers OP

    • Care to share which one your local is? Thanks

  • I recall these ones tasty so plain. It's foul
