Filtered Water System from The Kitchen Sink

My wife has been considering getting filtered water from the kitchen sink. She came across the website cleanandclearwater.com.au, which offers reasonable prices.

I called them to learn more about how the system works, particularly regarding filter replacement. They informed me that there is no lock-in contract, but the filters need to be replaced by a technician every year, which costs around $200. However, they did not specify what type of filter is used.

Does anyone have this system at home? Is it worth it? Do I really need a technician to replace the filters each year?

    I use this https://purewatersystems.com.au/products/single-high-flow-un…
Tea/Coffee taste better with Adelaide water.

    • Thanks for the suggestion. I bought a benchtop filter, as it seems more suitable for my housa.

  • However, they did not specify what type of filter is used.

Probably because you didn't bother reading their website … up to you to chose the type of filtering you want! Bottom of the page: Twin Undersink, Triple Undersink,
Quattro Undersink, 5 Stage Reverse Osmosis, 6 Stage Reverse Osmosis + Alkaline, whole house

Does anyone have this system at home?

Not that one, but we do use an 8 stage reverse osmosis filtered system …

    Is it worth it?

Up to you, how adverse to microplastics, PFAS, chlorine and fluorine are you ;)

Do I really need a technician to replace the filters each year?

Doubt it, our filters are simples swaps …

    • The "type" I meant was more like brand or size. I didn't want to depend on them to replace the filters.

  • There is some discussion on bench top RO systems here: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/864703

Happy with our hot/cold Aquaporin RO dispenser, had it for about 3 mths now and the instant cold water is fantastic on hot days!

  • You dont mention if there is any upfront and install costs?

    I would guess so.

I had something very much like this installed by a plumber at the same time we were renovating the kitchen. I had installed one myself at an old house. So depends on your handyman ability. You can easily replace the quick change filters yourself.

two years of replacement filters are $90

  • i work at customers sites and its not uncommon to find filtered tap systems out of action If a brand like Zip, which most of these are (expensive too), cant make reliable taps, god help anyone else.

    • The Zip ones are much more complicated as it has instant hot, chilled and even carbonated options.

Simple filters are reliable and maintenance free, other than changing the filter which you can DIY.

  • The pipes in your home are sized small enough to ensure a high velocity which scours any buildup.

Water moves slowly through filters as it's a large area. This ensures that dirt and debris builds up, creating a perfect breeding ground for bacteria. To avoid this you need to change/clean them often.

    • That's a good point.

having a water filter that doesn't get changed is worse than having no filter.

  • i had one of these Twin Dual Undersink Pure Water Filter Systems which cost $82.85 at my old house.

hooked up to one of these taps 3-way taps - currently $64 delivered with code BF2420.

    I'd replace the filters every 8 - 12 months.

filters are now AU $39.10 for [2 twin packs][https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/354727213364] or $58.66 for 4 twin packs.

I've bought the same tap for my current house but have yet to plump in the filter - pretty simple but I am lazy.

at the old house I could really notice the difference in taste between the filtered and unfiltered water.
