how is this a better option than the Meross garage opener?

    • +1

Functionality is pretty much the same. Both offer remote control, status monitoring, and smart home integrations (e.g.,HA, Alexa, Google Assistant, HomeKit).
Konnected can run entirely on a local network for better security and manufactured in North America

Short version: the BlaQ version works with Chamberlain's notoriously annoying Security 2.0 protocols, and integrates with their sensors. If you need this, this is one of the few ways around their subscription fees.

Apart from that, this kit has an optical sensor to determine door position, where the Meross kit has a magnetic reed switch that requires more wiring. And this one also has a safety alarm when the door is operating.

Whether those features are worth the extra ~$100 dollars is up to you :-)

I could argue that a Shelly or Sonoff relay and a reed sensor from AliExpress is far better value than the Meross kit, but it really depends on your priorities and willingness to DIY.

AU standard does require a sensor to stop something getting caught

        • My garage door opener already had those so Meross complements well :)

  • OpenGarage is an alternative based on this review. I'm more interested in their OpenSprinker.

  • How is this better than the $50 Bunnings one? https://www.bunnings.com.au/orion-grid-connect-smart-garage-…

    • See my comparison above about the Meross one, which is functionally identical to the Orion one you've linked.

  • So another option is to buy a shelly 1pm (very small, runs on the 12/24 volt output on most garage door motors) and wire that in - pretty easy and plenty of instructions online - no need to have separate power supply. Then just buy a cheap laser fitting from amazon and wire that into garage door motor as well. Shelly is bombproof and only ~$20.
