What makes it unpalatable?
This particular one had a strong taste of paprika or something that was just over the top IMHO.
Neck pour on this one isn't good. Try again in a few weeks and it will be much more typical of what you'd expect from a Lagavulin.
@HomeAlone: Thanks, will do. I did have it from the very first opening. By the by, I found the cask strength 15 yo singleton in the recent amazon deal to be bold, but delicious.
@HomeAlone: 'Neck pour' is such an icky phrase lol, but I get it.
@HomeAlone: Sorry whats a neck poor?
@Pwoar: First pour from a newly opened bottle.
Edit: my 2c are that yes, the first pour on this was basically petrol without much else.
Subsequent pours have started to soften a bit and show some stone fruit, citrus, some sweetness and spicy cinnamon notes but overall this bottle isn't really my vibe. The finish is medium short which feels a bit sad considering it's a cask strength bottle.
Disclosure: I've found I'm quite a fan of sherry cask aged whiskeys, so that may be why I'm not a big fan of this
@DeToxin: Thanks for the explainer
With the cask strength it can be fun to dilute one drop at a time to find your flavour
Good tip ☺️
This one absolutely needs time to open up. I found the neck pour in this expression ROUGH even after 30 minutes WITH water added. After about 100ml or so from the bottle had been withdrawn and it had been open a month it was very different and for the better.
Not one of my favs either would almost say its like there's a reason this particular one is in abundance but keep an eye out for the 2021 version its delicious from first sip to last.

Cheaper at nicks
not if you add shipping
Nicks delivery is $15 to Sydney. Can’t imagine delivery price to be more than $40 anywhere in Australia.
so ours is cheaper if you compare $129 with $119 plus shipping
meh price
Very good price on the cask strength Laphroaig.
Some interesting bottles in the sale menu. The Bunna 21 is extremely tempting!
The Lagavulin is pretty average compared to other prices recently and currently, but agree with MayThereJim that theres some interesting ones in the sale list including Laphroaig CS including:
It was cheaper at Amazon, and honestly I know tastes differ but this one isn't what I'd call "palatable" for myself, and I like as wide a range of whiskey as the next person.
