Carls Jr in Oz is just Burger King/Hungry Jacks

Well just tried Carls Jr thinking it would be a burger feast like in the USA and even Bangkok.

No.

It's clear Burger King/Hungry Jacks has bought them out and just transplanted everything over. The burgers are just Burger King but 20 per cent more. No difference at all. I will never go back.

Is this the same throughout Oz?

I tried Carl's Jr once in Melbourne Docklands and while it was absolutely awful, and nowhere near their US/ME branches, it was nothing like Hungry Jacks either.

HJ whoppers have a very distinctive taste AND aftertaste which I haven't noticed anywhere else.

    • Please elaborate, Hymabroid. What can you liken that 'aftertaste' to? MSG? Garlic? Unicorn horn?

its like this fake chemical flavor enhancer.

I get hungry jack burps for the rest of the day after one of their burgers, its foul

        • You know with franchises they cut corners and only head office makes money LOL

        • Exactly this comment @GnarlyKnuckles - It's spot on perfectly.

… hungry jacks tastes passable though?

    Find Carls Jr better tbh.

I got that impression too, tastes just like HJ. But honestly better. For the price, not worth it, imo.

  • Wait till you find out most of the takeout burger joints are pretty much the same.

  • Now you know why they went under

    • I presume you mean to South Australia.

Of course, stupid UberEats won't deliver it to me, although they used to and it isn't like the distance between me and them has changed or nothing.

      /end rant

They haven't. Carl's was just another American chain that pushes the same crap as everyone else.

Carl's Jr in SA is great, it's a cleaner tasting and slightly better cost alternative to HJ/maccas. I got 4 burgers for $10 the other day, cheese burger, bbq cheese, santa fe and jalapeno. They were simple, clean and filling. Chips are always crispy and fresh, fountain drinks are pretty flat but they do a great shake.

From my experience (although I’ve only had Carl’s Jr a handful of times at 3-4 different stores) it’s basically like Hungry Jack’s except the ingredients seem fresher, especially the vegetables. Hungry Jack’s lettuce is shredded and limp for example, I’ve had whole pieces of crisp iceberg lettuce in my burger at Carl’s Jr.

I actually think it’s better than Hungry Jack’s in terms of quality, but paying $2-3 more for that slight bump in quality isn’t always worth it.

  • The burgers are better at Hungry Jacks

    • I haven't tried eating a Carls Jr at Hungry Jacks, so I can't say.

    • That's why I take my Macca's into the dining area at HJs to eat it.

  • “Carl's Jr. (profanity) you! I'm eating.”

You mean this is a real burger joint, not just something made up for Idiocracy?

  • What's funny is that a Hungry Jacks is opening where my local Carl's Jr was located.
