Son Needs a Laptop for High School Next Year

My high school son needs a laptop. I have checked with school and they have no preference as apparently they would provide a laptop during stay at school but he will be needing a laptop to do school home work.

I am leaning towards refurbished laptop for time being and take advantage of Ebay's 22% Ebay Plus offer.

Can some guide which is best one from the list below or recommend an alternative model.

  • From the list, I think the second one, but better spend a bit more….

  • First one is a bit old, and Windows 11 does not officially support.
Last one is a Surface Pro clone. I'd like it for myself, but maybe not rugged enough for a high-schooler.
Second and third are rated as "good", not "very good", or "excellent", which could mean they are badly scratched, or , more likely, the battery is (profanity).

You are definitely on the right track, but maybe keep looking for a seller that guarantees 80% battery? I've had mostly good experience with bneactrader.

  • 1st one is a no, you want W11 support meaning at-least an 8th gen processor.

4th is also a no-go IMO, the screen is just too small.

Out of that shortlist I'd probably go with the Elitebook for that i7 chip which will be nice given the age of the laptop

Should last a decent while until a) it gets broken or b) an upgrade is needed i.e. for textiles or design work in later high school years.

Condition: Good cosmetic condition, has some scratches wear and keyboard marks on the screen. New Battery

$279 and has touch 13.3" touch display, new battery installed and 16GB RAM

  • be prepared to replace soon with those options

  • Dell Latitude 7200 looks like good deal. Problem is if you are using it on your lap a lot it is hard to keep upright compared to normal laptop.

Followed by 7390 but it is 8GB and only 1 ram slot. If you can get a 7300 it is ually got 1 free slot and pick up cheap 8GB to put into second slot. Otherwise budget for a full 16gb ram upgrade which is like $40 if you are lucky.
