Apple Homekit Stopped Working after Installing Eero

Hey everyone
Setup my Eero 6+ today and everything seemed great

Then I noticed that none of my Hue Lights were responding. Did a power cycle etc but still not responding. I’ve been trying to work this out but nothing has fixed it and I’ve even gone to the stage of removing Bridge lights etc from HomeKit.

Now when I try to sync the Hue Bridge my HomeKit it no longer syncs. My Hue bridge is connected via Ethernet to a network switch which is then connected to my modem and has been like this and working for years until today.

Anyone able to help me out?

  • Have you worked through this already?

    • Yer and I couldn’t even find this part

Open the eero app and tap Settings at the bottom of the screen
      Tap Apple HomeKit

  • Your NetGear switch needs to be plugged into the eero 6+ router. Did you enable bridge mode on your Telstra modem?

    • I did it and then I had no internet access to anything for 20min so I had to reset modem again to get it back to normal mode and have access again

      Was a nightmare

      No idea what happened

      • If you didn't use the 'kick the connection' trick then 20 minutes isn't long enough to get bridge mode working. It has to be at least 30 minutes before the Telstra modem will recognize the eero router.

Alternatively keep the Telstra modem how it is setup now and leave bridge mode off. In the eero advanced settings choose bridge mode. This turns the eero into a Wi-Fi access point and the eero router becomes inactive.

        • Is this ok to do? Do I loose anything

Doing this I will then be able to add and use hue again?

Do I need to still plug the switch into the eero?

          • @Twisty: You lose access to these eero features. Your Hue lights will work again and you can leave the NetGear Switch plugged into the Telstra modem with this setup.

Did you end up checking if you can get FTTP?

            • @Twix: Yer apparently I can but editing a confirmation call back from ABB

I was also told that if I can get FTTP it may not be installed where I want it to be where my current setup is which will be a tab disappointing due to that room feeding the house with the Ethernet setup there

              • @Twisty: The nbn NTD only needs access to power and the nbn NTD doesn't have to be in the same room as your eero router and NetGear switch. An ethernet cable can link the nbn fibre NTD to your eero router. Ethernet cabling would have to be done by a cabler or sparkie (not an nbn installer).

Would that suit or do you still want the nbn NTD setup in the same room with everything?

With FTTP you plugin the eero router into the nbn NTD and you get all the eero router features back.

                • @Twix: Yer I know it’s gonna be better

On a side note, I just changed my DNS Server to 8.8.8.8 - https://ibb.co/NmW4hRf

Can you see if I did everyone right

Sorry to ask just trying to learn

I had to reset my modem and when I did it changed my DNS server back to factory and I forgot all about it so I just then changed it again to 8.8.8.8 but just want to validated is correct

                  • @Twisty: Yeah that's right.

I can tell you your nbn NTD options if you want everything setup in the same room?

                    • @Twix: Yer if you have the time mate

                      • @Twisty: Option 1. The nbn installer puts the nbn NTD box where you want for free.
1a. If you can't agree on the nbn NTD box location you can decline and put the FTTP installation on hold. Get a P20 20mm communications conduit with a parramatta rope inside it installed to the room. Once completed re-book with Aussie BB and nbn will come install the nbn NTD box and fibre cable.

Option 2. Before nbn turns up go and hire a cabler or install your own P20 20mm communications conduit with a parramatta rope inside it to the room where you want the nbn NTD box setup. This way you don't get potential excuses from the nbn installer and you get what you want.

The conduit, parramatta rope and glue should cost no more than $50 if you want to DIY it.

                        nbn FTTP install.

                        • +1

@Twix: Thanks for the info mate
                          Appreciate it

                          • @Twisty: All good. I'd recommend factory resetting the eero router and start fresh when you get FTTP.

                            • +1

@Twix: Yer I will start for scratch
