Mahlkonig X54 Coffee Grinder $879 + $9.95 Delivery @ Alternative Brewing

80

The Mahlkönig X54 Coffee Grinder is a premium german made grinder with flat burs. It’s versatile enough to handle everything from espresso to French press, thanks to its 54mm flat burrs that is consistently withi 0.3grams according to reviews. The workaround for zero retention is to have a 3 second purge setting which will help with consistency in every shot.

I think the hopper set up is perfect for those of us who don't single dose every morning. I tend to go through a whole bag of beans before changing it out. It also keeps the workflow simple enough for my partner to make her own coffees.

  • Here i am not wanting to spend $1000 on a full automatic coffee machine.

    • Not a coffee connoisseur but also not fan of all in ones. The grinder goes and ? This grinder seems to be over the top for most homes, though not doubting it's awesome.

Anyway, we had a Rancillio Ricky grinder and a Rancillio Silva Espresso machine for 15 years with zero issues.

The older versions of this combo, I notice it still has a single boiler though, which some find annoying and id probably stump up for the Pro model but we've gotten used to. one note for the Rocky is realigning the grinder after cleaning is impossible i.e 0 is no longer 0 :) My partner cleans the coffee machine often and the grinder once a year (need special grind beans to clean that properly)

Breville dual boiler is value king for espresso machines. Not as nice looking as the Italians though :(

      • I have the rocky grinder but find it doesn't grind fine enough for some beans. Solid unit though

      • Accurately and consistently grinding particles is a lot harder than pushing water at a fixed pressure.

The grinder makes a much bigger difference than the espresso machine, especially if you drink black.
