I bought in $95 from binglee ebay store 6 momths ago, its good and handy portable ssd.

    • How is the performance compared to other Samsung T5, T7, T9 series?

I want something reliable & not to wake up all my data is lost or corrupted after 15 years or use.

Not that I will use a lot of write / read cycles. Longevity king Samsung SSD will be my 1st preference.

Still using 512GB usb3.1 seagate external storage. Its blocky compared to smaller ssd equipped models but i need more storage now.

You’re very brave hoping for a 15year lifespan!

        • More looking into archival media. Long term storage without the need to power up once a while.

          SSD vs HDD

I've read both ssd and hdd lose data in the end.

SSD need a voltage top up because they can lose "charge" if not used frequently. Something like that.

Dont know the specifics of this but spending over $100 and losing data in the end will hurt & some backup media is priceless. Once its gone, its gone. *assuming no backup for a backup is used.

          • @milanoxpress: Many better archival options. You're paying a lot for speed here. Seems an odd choice for a small amount of data for extended cold storage, let alone "15 years of use" as per your first comment. In saying that it might be fine (I still get surprised when I get data off 30 year old mech drives), but it's odd to intentionally go with this as the plan from the outset. Have you considered a cloud based option combined with anything but actively using the same drive for 15 years?

For a small amount of data: use cloud for "oh wtf/whoops" and lazy moments, use your ssd for a couple of years as your working files drive as it sounds you currently are, dump to a mechanical whenever you start to feel nervous (**on a regular schedule like a good kid). In a few years time you'll probably need more storage, you said you already filled your 512, so you'll want a new drive then anyway.

To anybody else reading this: this is your reminder to go do your scheduled dump backup that you've been putting off doing for… omg 6 months now?! :P

          • @milanoxpress:

… some backup media is priceless. Once its gone, its gone

Consider a 3rd backup of priceless-data via usb-flash-drive & store NOT @ home, eg car: has risk unless you're willing to buy 2 storage.

            Research '3 2 1' backup.

            FREE Cloud Storage.
I wouldn't risk storing anything that has adverse financial impact if data is hacked.
Maybe there's a case for 3rd backup, except above ?

      • Mine died after 7 years. Fortunately, I only use it as the backup for my NAS.

      • If POWERED hdd is IN-convenience for your use, careless nature (spinning hdd hates bumps), you give up longevity criteria, 1Tb meet your storage need in the next 5 yrs, & you highly regard faster WRITE-speed, then there's a case for SSD ?

Maybe foresee storage need for 3-5 yrs, why is this preference a criteria: 'Its blocky compared to smaller ssd equipped models', 15 yrs life is possible but outlier with hdd: POWERED spinning hdd has the greatest chance, read widely ?

        ssd WRITE speed: really ?
1.Is 150MB/s CONSISTENT WD powered spinning hdd not fast enough ?
2.Maybe ssd WRITE speed experience by users is IN-consistent & lower compare to makers' claimed…why is that ?

Longevity: may be cross-out PORTABLE spinning hdd ?

NO manufacturer give 4 yrs warranty & any warranty comes with condition, any storage….why is that ?

$119 delivered from Bing Lee eBay using plus $20 off code - PLS150
    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/156196019912

Have both the normal T5 and this T7 Shield, much prefer the ruggidness with this

    • Will OW match this?

      • 1300 633 423

      • *Ruggedness with an e my bad..

Worth a try with OW number from boomramada below, but looks like OW matched Bing Lee already on the base price 138/139, ebay discount of $20 is exclusive - I think you can arrange collect from store via the ebay order still if the reason you want the pricematch is to pick up quickly?

    • It only gives me the $10 off code. PLUS120

      • When I relooked at the listing after purchase it showed $10 PLUS120 for me too, did you already use PLS150?

        • No, haven’t used it. Maybe I can just add it and see..I guess.

          Edit .. no, doesn’t work..invalid code.

  • Not exactly the same but got myself the Crucial X9 4TB for $307 on Amazon
