Yes. Osprey is good. Ill pick that over north face. NF is like apple. Overpriced stuffs due to strong brand name.
My osprey last forever…
My osprey last forever…
How many years have you been using it?
Have seen these Osprey Deals & wondered what I'm missing out on.
I've been using different packs for travel & hiking for decades. Some are better than others. Some can't handle much abuse (stitching, fabric, straps & zips fail)
So wondered how it compares to other brands you've used?
My favourites (Ocean & Earth Karvin 24L) are in almost daily use here & as carry on only luggage for years overseas.
Large enough to fit clothes etc for 4 week trip. Great to use & nothing has failed.
Almost same dimensions, comfortable, slightly lighter, 4 useful compartments including padded for laptop.
Free with $14.50 mobile in 2011!!
Still have years of expected use. Lasted much longer than a few earlier expensive backpacks.
But could do with an upgrade.
I've got an Osprey bag that is my daily work bag. I think I've used it now 6ish years and it has held up very very well. 100% would recommend. They are built strong and will last forever.
@paaj: Thanks. Will try the range in store for fit first. As I've done with all my packs.
Attended a presentation on light travel long ago. Osprey Daylite 44L was recommended as the ideal carry-on pack for my use.
Didn't buy then - due to higher price.
It has a full-zip main (suitcase style) compartment, which lays flat for easy access to clothes.
I've travelled light up to 9 months a year. Trip planned for later next year.
My old 24L packs will last few more years in every day use.
Bellroy is like Apple, NF is like….Samsung, Osprey must be Motorola
Osprey is like a fancy Nokia 3310. Stylish enough, practical and sturdy.
Thanks op. Bought with Top cash back (there is 20% cash back all Amazon purchases)
Osprey are great. Especially, their hiking bags. I have an Osprey daylite backpack and it fits enough clothes and accessories for 2-3 days.
Which one?
There are a range of Osprey DayLite packs. Am considering 44L for light extended overseas carry-on travel.
Have used 24L pack with 10/20L waterproof drypack clipped on underneath for extra storage, on many 4-10 week trips since 2011.
Yes, thats the one. I bought (in Canada) one in last July and used for our trip to the US. This is great as a day backpack and also as a carry-on. Some low cost carriers may not allow it as carry-on, as it looks huge, once you stuff everything in
If you dont mind the color, tumble weed yellow is available on Amazon US via AU for $144.16
But if you are looking for a hiking bag ( for long hiking trips), I would say go for Osprey Fairview/Farpoint
Thanks for the info.
Read some reviews - warning may not meet carry on measurements. I always check.
Using a 25L pack + 20L dry sack has not been a problem - as easily separated to stow in cabin. Meets requirement for single bag. But depends on carrier!!
hiking packs…
Have good (top loading) used for years - 45L & 70L. (They're lighter than multi compartment packs. Why I prefer them on long multi-day hikes.)
70L designed for mountains (has attachment for ice axe!), is now rarely used. Last used for 12 day through walk in Tasmanian mountains.
It's well constructed - great in rough environments, carrying camping gear & all supplies.
Even though it's big, it can compress down to give long thin pack, distributing weight evenly. My most comfortable pack.
Have used 45L in past as carry on in Europe (Ryan Air). Now only 40 x 20 x 25 cm. Even this 24L wouldn't pass!
But top loading (large compartment + smaller compartment in lid) hiking packs aren't as convenient as multiple compartment travel packs - for travel! Very hard to find what you want. (Use colour coded stuff sacks.)
Good for carrying longer gear like a tent. (Now use much smaller & lighter tents)
Can concur with osprey have had mine for years and never broken a sweat. Lifetime warranty too.
AU warranty is lifetime?
It's a US thing. I've tried here.
Would this bad be a good back to run in?
I sometimes commute to work and home which is a 5-6km route. My back gets pretty hot and sweaty with my current bag.
This isn't a running bag. Deuter, maybe?
Osprey make quality gear, I've had mine a couple of years, rode to work sometimes on my pushy but mostly motorcycle and it just keeps going. I figured the Stretchy pockets would rip but nup rock solid.
$157 now
Is this worth the price?
