It's Black Friday.
Whenever our server load reaches a threshold, we'll automatically turn on CloudFlare's Under Attack Mode to block off the bots. It just happens quite often today due to the amount of traffic.
How many times have people told you to get a better server or more resources? Hopefully none this time.
With Under Attack Mode kicking in automatically this year, the performance is actually not too bad. It turns out 1/3 to 1/2 of our bandwidth are chewed up by bots.
What are the bots trying to achieve? I’ve received the same captcha whenever I load OzB or refresh the page, gets annoying
@Iwantthebestprice: i assume they're like the scrapers used to build the chinese ozbargain copy site
Why do the bots target OZB during Black Friday? Or the system can't tell the difference between an organic traffic spike and bots?
They target OzBargain all the time — from over-eager RSS readers, SEO analytic bots that don't follow robots.txt
, AI model trainers, etc, to actual DDoS attackers.
Do bots dream of electric sheep?
Aren't electric sheep just Lamb in an Air Fryer (with some Rosemary and Himalayan salt)?
Nope. They are merinos caught in an electric fence, just after shearing
That sounds Baaaaaaaaaad. :+)
one eneloops, two eneloops …
Well done on making it this far. You must be human.
Same. (Windows laptop) I even get in on Startpage frequently
Good on them for having an orderly plan.
(visualise Boxing Day crowd as store opens)
everyone buying cheap perfumes or everyone is sick…
Or everyone is sick of other people buying cheap perfumes and wearing them to work.
More like some idiots saw/heard about an online queue and felt the ovine urge to join it for no good reason.
I can confirm it's only you. Who uses Telstra for nbn anyway?
