This NAS is back on sale and can be had for $30 cheaper if you stack with 20% cashback at TopCashback. This is good if you're after a budget off the shelf NAS that'll do all the essentials including network storage with RAID redundancy, Plex transcoding, Docker, video surveillance, syncing to OneDrive/Google Drive/Dropbox and more.

Featuring 4 SATA bays, 2x M.2 2280 NVMe slots for storage/cache, 2x 2.5GbE LAN ports, Intel Celeron N5095 quad-core CPU, 4GB DDR4 SODIMM RAM (upgradeable to 32GB), 2x USB 3.2 Gen2 10Gbps ports and HDMI (for command input).

They've recently released TOS 6.0 with a heap of new features and improves over the previous OS. While it still isn't as mature as other brands you can still install other Operating Systems unofficially including Synology DSM (Xpenology), Unraid, TrueNAS, Windows and more.

You may still be able to get a free stick of 4GB RAM by posting a review and sharing with TerraMaster.

Your better going with the f4-424 at this price. This has been this price for some time, camcelcamelcamel is wrong on this one. Ive seen it on special for $358 for a day last week.

Too bad there are no F4-424 at this price or even close. Perhaps you saw the now out of stock TERRAMASTER F2-223 for $358 as it's on the same product page.

      • F4-424 has been $607 on amazon and msy $649. As for this item when i saw the price of $358, 558 -$201 amazon coupon as linked below. I have been tracking this exact model for a few months now for a friend.

        • Yes the F4-424 been before but it isn't now unless I can be proven wrong.

Scoring this NAS when it goes on the sale and the previous coupon hasn't quite expired is pretty lucky. They pop up from time to time.

    • Ah yes f4 424 with black casing, much better than this old silver case model
      Ozb search says $607

  • Get a qnap is better than this at $500

    • +1

      What one for $500?

      • TS-433 is closest in price but cons are:

ARM vs Intel 5095 so no transcoding
        Single 2.5gbe
        No HDMI

Pros are more mature software with solutions like QuMagie etc with AI features.

If you’re willing to tinker and forgive the occasional software bug the terramaster offers exceptional hardware for the money

    • Which QNAP?

  • This one is $400, if 1GB ram is enough for you

  • Anyone familiar with the requirements to install DSM unofficially? Presumably it needs to be a CPU family DSM supports?

My DS423 broke recently with the generic flashing blue light and I don't want to support Synology anymore…

    • Warranty? My synology still alive and kicking after 13 years. Run 24/7 almost

      • +1

warranty is 2 years, this shit itself at 2.5 years and their support was useless

        • Hmm have you try to mention ACL.. they are expensive.. should last longer than 2 years..
Omg i feel so lucky to get 13 years from my synology.. next year would be 14 years

        • That's right, when a few years ago I accidently lost admin access to my NAS, all I can get from Syno support is to fully reset the NAS. Web forums were useless as well. Fortunately, I discovered myself the way to download some useful tools from Syno websites and recovered my admin account.
Syno is good as hardware but pathetic customer support.
