how is this as compared to a dyson?

  • Just note you’ll need a replacement battery in 1-3 years

3 years I got it. What's that 1 for, so their battery is crap?

I am in the market for a stock vac, don't want to use Dyson anymore. Not they are bad, just been with them too long.

    • I reckon get a Ryobi HP stick vac. Pretty decent suction and the batteries are easy to replace

  • I was kicking myself when I missed out on this before. Now after hearing about it, not so much.

  • Having owned this for many years now I wouldn't recommend it.

Mine came with two batteries and both pretty much died an early life.
First it'll only let you use the vacuum on the lowest power, in which case you may as well not vacuum at all.
Then it'll die completely. Not just the cells, but the BMS.
I cut open one of the battery packs to rebuild it, but no dice.

A battery replacement costs a minimum of $100 each as there are no aftermarket ones available.

Conversely, my Dyson dc59(V6) lasted me 7 years before I replaced it with the LG. The Dyson battery worked fine for 7 years but then I was told the motor died rather than the battery.

The LG likes to lure you in with fancy accessories and a 10year warranty on the motor… But stings you with ink cartridge like batteries that cost an arm and leg to replace.

If you buy this, you'll get great power for 12 months, then mediocre power for 3 years, then be up for a new battery or vacuum

      That is interesting.
I have been using my Dyson V6 for over 6 years now! Original battery still , only thing that has given up is bottom lock of the container.
I'll stick to Dyson it seems.

      • Yep Dyson is quality.
When the bottom hinge snapped on mine, they posted out a brand new one even though I was overseas at the time.

Conversely, when my LG bed attachment broke for no reason, they made me drive 30mins away to drop off for repair, then again to pick up.

    • I've had mine for 4 years and it's a great vacuum but this weekend 1 of my 2 batteries also died.

originally, when I bought my vacuum the batteries were only $90 each and I figured being LG they'd use good quality. So decided to buy it instead of replacing my constantly broken Dyson cordless.

In LG defence, spare parts for the vacuum including filters are reasonably priced and the machine has held up well without any other issues.

LG have now bumped the price of the battery up to $175 (occasionally they do 30% off) and it seems most batteries don't last long.

You can buy third party ones from Amazon/eBay etc for $100, but idk how well they work.

  • Still using the Dyson DC35. Only had to replace the battery once which cost around $30.

  • I've had this and a Dyson V8.
Pros of the LG: More suction, the pre-filter and cyclone is much easier to disassemble and clean, dust canister is easier to open.
Cons: Less runtime compared to the V8, not as manoeuvrable, weakest aspect is battery longevity. As pointed out by posters above, you might get 1 year or 3. There are no aftermarket batteries or adapters that accommodate Ryobi/dewalt/power tool batteries.

As with all li-ion batteries, avoid completely discharging them or keeping them 100% charged for extended periods of time. They also don't like heat. When you've just spent 20mins vacuuming, avoid putting it on the charger immediately afterwards. Give it 10mins or so to cool down.
