These are Merrell's high-quality low-rise leather-upper hiking boots. They normally retail for just over $200. I really admire them. They will take a lot of punishment, keep out the water and look very good for what they are.
My previous Merrells have all been the plan Moab 2 or Moab 3 Mids (which have a mesh top). They have always tended to wear out in the Vibram sole at the heel after a couple of years; I walk 8000-10,000 steps a day in them. But the build quality has been great, and seems to be similarly good on the Adventure line.
Merrells tend to be half a size smaller than described; I usually take an 11½ so in these I look for a 12.
I've been scouring the country for these in a wide fitting at my size, so I can return the normal-fitting Moab Adventure 3s I bought last week. I thought those would do, but it turns out they're not quite wide enough. I have very wide feet; for most people, the standard fitting will be fine. (Best and only wide-fits in my size are $279.99 at Athlete's Foot. Gah.)
I'm not sure why Amazon has given these such a generic title, but the ID number (J003821) confirms these are as described in my title to this post.

I bought these in black for the O trek ~130km hike and I was incredibly disappointed. Prior to the trip I wore them for a few day hikes to break then in
On the trek the soles started to wear so they were visibly uneven (100kg human)
Were initially waterproof, however they don't breath so my feet were wet with sweat every day (despite the low temperatures) and took forever to dry
By day 5 the smallest puddle was causing water to seep in
On day 7 the sole started lifting off from the upper, small rocks were getting inWaste of money no matter the sale
I agree wi5h this. Used to cherish some old merrel chameleons that were bomb proof. Ever since they found goretex I'd be avoiding them.
Probably fine for general day to day strret wear, but nowhere near as rugged as theyd like you to think.
The above posts are pretty disappointing - I absolutely swore by my Merrel Ontario boots. I got them back in 2019 and have only really now decided to retire them due to the soles becoming slicks. The outer is still absolutely perfect though and I'd recommend them to anyone.
The Ontario aren't available anymore unfortunately.
Thanks, this will be great for my upcoming trip to japan snow!
