Been keep looking at Ubiquiti Dream Machine Special Edition + U6+ as a combination.
Seems all Ubiquiti products are on sale from the store.
Decent price on these 2. Pulled the trigger.

depends how many access point you need, and I think if UCG Ultra + U6+, you will need poe injector
This is my setup… and I think it’s better and more flexible as I can get good coverage
Thanks OP. Bought Dream Machine SE as well, decent price.
Good deal on the UDM SE and a good choice if you want to integrate cameras etc.
U6+ = Good
U6LR = Meh…
(genuine advice from a victim of U6LR)
Have got u6 lites currently. Think I'm going to keep waiting, but is tempting.
I’d say just go U7 when you really need to upgrade. If need extension, just add another U6Lite to cover dark spot.
They aren’t that bad. I’m running 2 currently… they go ok. Why aren’t you a fan?
Also running U6 Lites… what the primary reason to switch?
I never get 160MHz working properly on my U6LR. Others say it’s the MediaTek chipset to blame. Also I personally experience a “dark spot under the light” issue with my U6LR - it’s signal, especially 5GHz, sucks when I’m in the same room with unblocked line of sight, but 5GHz attenuates fast over walls anyway, ended up with an AP excels at 2.4GHz. Eventually my devices start to either connect to 5GHz on other nearby APs, or sometimes jump to 2.4GHz altogether. But if I’m looking for a coverage-centric AP for 2.4GHz, I can use UAP-LR instead.
The situation did get better after quite a few firmware updates, though. It’s relatively stable now. Performance is still an issue. Based on my use case, I should have waited for a month or two more for the U6Pro instead, which is actually a bit cheaper as well. (Yeah… U6Pro wasn’t generally available in Australia when I setup my network)
U6+ is cheap enough to endure the quirkiness of its MediaTek chipset, while U6Pro is fast with Qualcomm chip and good compatibility and performance. U6LR is the mascot squeezed in between that shouldn’t be considered unless with a very specific need.
If I buy one of these for upstairs wifi and one for downstairs wifi, what do I also need to buy to plug into the nbn box to make it all work?
a switch with poe which can power access point
Thanks, but other than powering the access points dont I need some kind of router to connect to the nbn box?
You do need a router. While it doesn't need to be a UniFi Dream Machine or Cloud Gateway (Max), having one does make things easier, especially if you want the more advanced features.

Thanks heaps OP. Been waiting for a DM SE to come on sale again!
What's the difference between the ultra and the max? Trying to decide which one I need. Currently have 1gbs fttp. Wired up two u6+ to a switch. Just need the router now.
One of the major differences is the nvme slot in the side on the Max, allowing onboard storage for Protect (cameras). It also has 2.5G LAN ports, if that’s important to you.
Not sure whether he was asking for Dream Machine Pro Max or Cloud Gateway Max. If he was asking about Dream Machine Pro Max vs SE, then the differences are:
Apologies, this is in regards to the cloud gateways
@dfghdffb: Cloud Gateway Max has 2.5Gbps LAN ports + 2.5Gbps WAN port, more compact and has a 512GB SSD (Kingston OEM PCIe gen 4 x4 (DRAMless, low end)). It supports less Unifi Protect cameras (15 (Full HD), 8 (2K), 5 (4K)) and that 512GB obviously is not big enough (ideally you probably want 4TB or 8TB). Can't find the one without 512GB SSD + the SSD add-on here. No touch screen (UDM SE has one) and less routing performance.
Didn't realise UDM SE would be at this price. The POE ports are handy, pity UDM SE doesn't have 2.5Gbps LAN ports. I really want 2.5Gbps LAN and thought NVMe SSD makes it more compact. Price of Cloud Gateway Max + 512GB SSD here isn't that good, but has come down a lot since I bought mine. The annoying thing is that you generally only can use either 1 UDM or cloud gateway max, but not both (basically one central controller). Cloud Gateway Max does get warm and it does take a while to fully bootup.
@netsurfer: Thanks for the info. Since I won't have any other unifi gear. I'll just stick to the ultra. Cheers for helping me decide!
@dfghdffb: Sorry, didn't realise you wanted ultra vs max comparison. Max is better, but if you are certain you won't have Unifi Protect cameras and your NBN isn't 1000 (and has no plan to get NBN 2000 speed when it is available), Ultra is much cheaper. You will need a POE switch or POE injectors to use the access points though.
@netsurfer: Well that changes things lol. I've got 1000 NBN but honestly don't game. Just got 6 cameras, NAS and alot of smart devices. I won't need NBN 2000 speeds.
@dfghdffb: FTTP NTD box currently only supports gigabit ethernet, so Ultra is fine. Ultra is cheap anyway so it is low risk. If you later on decided to upgrade, it is not a big deal. I have too many devices which come with a 2.5Gbps LAN port(s) or 10Gbps LAN port(s).
@netsurfer: You can also use non unifi cameras with protect now
@Jemz: Considered Unifi announced AI Port, you can tell the non Unifi camera support without that will be very basic. Anyway, what 3rd party cameras work reasonably well with Unifi Protect?
@netsurfer: My friend has been using Reolink Trackmix wifi with Unifi Protect.
For my own trackmixes at home (non unify setup - yet….) - in home assistant I take a snapshot, then use the LLM vision integration from hacs, pipe in through there and get Gemini to describe what's happening in the snapshot, describe the person, do they look like a delivery person etc.
Is the udm pro se still available? I don’t see it on the page
Ubiquiti U6+ sold out?
Dream Machine SE and U6+ AP are sold out now.
Can anyone provide some advise.
Setting up a new home network.
Want rock solid wifi through the house (3-4 APs)
CCTV will be a seperate device but I want at least 8 Ethernet ports around the home for PCs, console, etc.
Which version of the dream machine do I buy?
I need PoE for the APs but I could add a switch? Apparently there’s more limited bandwidth on some versions unless you get an adaptor?
Some of it is a little beyond my knowledge Base, if anyone can provide some advice that would be greatly appreciated.
How about a UCG Ultra for around $179 and 2 x U6+ ?
