RC Car for 9yr Old

Looking to get my son a RC car for Christmas.

A couple years back i saw suggestions on ebay etc.
I feel like the landscape would have changed a bit since then.

Any RC gurus out there know a good bang for buck RC car I should be ordering for him?

      $150 ish. He's had RC cars for a few years but no fast one and I thought now was the time to step up.

        my 5yo kids have had a Deerc one from amazon for a year. it's survived. It's fast enough for most people. was $90ish

        It needed a repair when the wire to the motor snapped because of a build error, so i fixed that ezpz.

        it's ok as a toy.
        as car for racing on the rc track, it sucks.
        once it reaches max speed the wheels wobble too much and the car flips over like mad and you lose control.

          Can you get any parts for those or more likely a case of any plastic bits broken just buy a new car?

            @SBOB: with my previous experience with an MN99s, the spare parts of aliexpress suck.
            on this Deerc, no spare parts.
            but they havent broken other than a wire the snapped a bit

              @FoxJump: Thinking an entry level mjx from Ali as seems even local hobby stores stock spares for those

    I got one of these a few years ago https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/761512. It's quite fast and decent quality. Better than the land fill you'd get from kmart

        I'm new to RC but is there a reason to not get the 16207 which is 3S. Isn't that more power?

          For a kid so "more power" was not my primary purchase goal.

          Cheap, basher, car big enough I can also use it when we take it out

          Also, while this series supports the 3s, plenty of reports of more premature damage to transmission bits due to the extra 'powah'
