    98" C855 under $5K pls

  • ATL I believe

    • +6

Maybe ticketed ATL but a lot of us were able to get around $1,840 delivered from JB a month ago price matching HN with their 10% gift card promo. Still a killer price for a killer TV

      • Wow nice! How are you finding the TV?

        • +2

Got mine delivered the other day from the HN deal.

While I'm no expert on picture quality it looks great and the UI /Plex is 5x faster than the old Hisense viida in used to.

        • +10

First room on the left when you enter the front door of the house. Lounge room.

        • +2

Yeah same review as Kegsta, picture looks unreal and (very very) bright. Can still see ever so slight blooming when the screen is mostly a black image but a significant improvement over my old Hisense TV. UI is also snappy and fast so no need to get an external media box thingy. Inspired me to blow the dust off the Xbox and play again.

Only issue i've had so far is about 20% of the time when booting the TV up the soundbar and TV don't want to talk to eachother. I have to manually cycle through the soundbar inputs to set it back to the HDMI ARC before it receives sound and input from the TCL remote. Strange….

          10/10 would recommend.

        • +5

I'm coming from premium Panasonic / Sony TVs, a picture quality enthusiast, also a hobbyist TV calibrator, and my verdict after 5 months is that this is the best overall TV I've ever watched (haven't played with the Bravia 9 tho).

No blooming, 99% of OLED black levels without OLED burn in concerns, enough brightness to blind you, fast / clean OS, good enough sound, amazing reflection handling, amazing packaging and excellent build quality.

Considering the price, this is an outstanding bargain.

      • Yeah, I got a $191 JB gift card (10% of the price) that I used about 2 weeks later to buy a fridge that was already $500 off.

    • Its not lol i got mine for $1784 including delivery about a month or so ago

  • +3

I'm tossing up between this and the 65" Samsung S90D (which I can get around 2500). Any recommendation on which one to go for if being used in a bright room for mainly TV/movies. Have a console but don't really game anymore so doesn't matter much.

    • +1

In a bright room probs this. Mini LED gets a lot brighter than OLED

    • +1

this or the 85" version of this

      • bigger the better

    • Get the s90d. Do you watch fast moving sports? My TCL and Hisense and the cheaper ones don't do well with ball games.

      • Either very old models, or you don't have the proper settings enabled. My C855 is the most smooth (no soap opera) TV I've ever had, and I'm coming from a 2023 Sony.

    • Haha exactly the same dilemma. I am mainly for YouTube. So either Bravia 7 or S90D or C855.

      • +1

I have written some comparisons when I researched / demoed the B7 vs the C855. The TCL is vastly superior.

    • ha - same 65" S90 or 65" C855 or U8NAU

  • Are these prone to burn-in like OLEDs?

    • +1

Shouldn't be an issue with mini-LED as far as I'm aware

    • +3

From what I've read online so far, shouldn't be an issue with mini LEDs. Besides, even OLEDs have gotten much better over the years, so if you get a current generation, you should be ok for 10 years with normal usage.

      • +2

That's the thing. With a toddler that watches a ew hours of cocomelon every day, we saw cocomelon logo burnt into our 2017 OLED and it's still there. The YouTube logo is also burnt into the top right corner and some other logos from FTA channels! Not sure if OLED is the one to go for us for our next TV unless things have improved dramatically since 2017

        • Thanks for sharing, as someone with young kids this helps a lot. we just got the TCL above so fingers crossed. i can imagine someone who watches all day cricket would also get logo burn in too

  • In the scheme of things is mini-LED important enough over other aspects like the software processing but on an older FALD TV?
Sony in particular their prices are like one tech level higher than others.

    • Depends what's important to you, and what you watch mostly.

If it's movies in a darkened room, get the Sony. The colour accuracy and motion processing will be more important than the blinding brightness, which you won't need in a darkened room.

If it's a living room, get the TCL. For general-purpose viewing in a room with ambient light, the TCL is a like a small sun and will cut through any reflections and distractions from the room.

      • +2

        highly disagree

color accuracy on this model is amazing, delta e just above 1, overall calibration was very good out of the box in Movie mode according to Calman

motion is also excellent in this 24 lineup, and I compare that with my 2023 Sony

the blooming in this TV is non existent, contrast is absurd, making night viewing / movie watching an excellent exp

the only miniled TV superior to this C855 would be the Bravia 9 at 3x the cost, but I haven't checked that on yet to confirm reviewers opinions

  • How laggy is the interface? 75 inch with 7.5 seconds delay

    • +1

It's not. Pain point for this TV is selecting source as the source button is half way up the remote on the left.

    • in non logged on mode (vanilla android tv) it's super fast

  • +6

    Hanging for the 85" deals

  • Amazing TV's! Recommended. I have last yrs 50inch and its great!

    • I couldn’t find one of the 845 and had to settle for the 755. Trying to get tvs under 50inch is getting difficult

      • thats true… i got the 845 last yr, 50inch just for the bedroom and its great. Even a bit too bright for the bedroom lol

  • Just ordered 85" C755 for around same price (200 more).. is the C855 that much better and drop down size to stay within same budget ballpark…

    • +1

i'm keen on the C755, let me know how you go with your research

    • Yes it is. Zones, speaker’s etc.

    • No. Stay with the 85"

Almost always, in real world usage (as opposed to a bunch of tech reviewers comparing an image to a reference monitor in a darkened room) people will prefer a larger image to a smaller, more technically perfect image.

You will never regret going large, but if you get the smaller one, you'll always wonder how much better your life would be if you had have gone LARGE!

      • Depends on what their usage is and distance, 75” is not small and more dimming zone are a good thing.

  • -6

    “Premium”

  • +1

this is as close as it gets to OLED right? (for miniLED)

    • +2

Yep and the blacks look amazing.

  • Built-in soundbar? Normally I would think it's bullshit but I have a Aldi Bauhn 42 inch in the bedroom with one and the sound is way better on the bass. (2019) I know different tv and class but still….

  • I went Harvey the other day and asked about this TV, the salesperson does not recommend as he had customers complain about the laggy interface after purchase

    • Could be thinking of the C755 range which has a much slower processor and less lighting zones but still sold right next to the C855 in stores? Mine has been waayyyy faster and snappier than my previous google chromecast with google TV and firestick dongles.

      • I specifically asked for the c855 and he told me Harvey Norman was a "premium" store and they do not have this mid-tier TV on display (even though I saw the c655 on display).

The only thing stopping me from getting the TV is the input lag for the OS.

        • +3

Worst case scenario is you get the 855, it is too slow, and you spend $50-100 on a Google TV or other OS Dongle to supplement. Given how fine my far less performant c635 is in performance, and how responsive my parents' 845 seems, I suspect you will find the 855 to be fine.

I suspect he was just trying to push you to another brand, as Harvey Norman do sell the 855, and I have seen it in store there.

        • +1

bullshit, here in Ipswich QLD I compared both 75" C855 and Bravia 7, 2 meters apart from each other

the C855 is vastly superior, black levels, blooming, reflection handling, etc.

Regarding the OS being lagged, again the C855 was much much faster than the Bravia 7. Sony's UI has an overlay theme on top of Android making it very laggy. TCL's Android is clean / stock experience. The sales guy is biased and just want to sell a more expensive TV to you.

If you don't logon to Google, it's as fast as it gets.

          • @CrazyTachikoma: Thank you both for the information.

          • @CrazyTachikoma: Aren't we supposed to login as it's an Android TV? For youtube premium at least? 😊

            • +2

@beverleyrose: you can logon to apps individually, if you logon to the TV you get a different experience with ads and etc. like all android TVs

I prefer to log manually to each app, install apps manually using an apk, and enjoy the fastest exp possible without being bombarded with shit

          • @CrazyTachikoma: Sorry, why is logging on to Google (YouTube) make it slower?

  • Anyone who owns this TV (c855), can you confirm whether the operating system is snappy or laggy (or is it so so)? Thank you : 😊

    • +1

I've responded to this FUD a few times above.

      • -1

Thank you. A friend has a C635 and he advises me against TCL due to its laggy system (he compares it against his Samsung QLED). But I guess not all TCLs are the same.

I came to a GG store and ask for a remote to try but they didn't let me. : 😢

        • +6

          mate, he has a TV that's 2 generations behind (x3xx, versus x5xx), and it's a low cost / entry model 6 series.

This is a top model 8 series, and of course it's current 2024 model.

it's like buying a $200 android and affirming that a 2k iPhone is better because Android sucks… gotta compare apples to apples

        • +2

I have a C635 and it is considerably more responsive than a Chromecast with Google TV, which most people seem to be happy with, and a lot more responsive than the awful Viida OS on my Hisense.

  • Hmm, no shipping to QLD by the looks. Tried two different address up here. Oh well..

    • odd, I live in rural QLD and got the C855 delivered twice from Appliances Online (the first TV had shipping damage)

      • Yeah dunno why, thought it was odd myself that it would reject the address. Tried one as a unit and one an actual house.

        • call them

        • Yep I have the same issue. Did you get it sorted?

          • +1

@rlytoasti: Waiting for a reply from them.Just sent them a message via ebay.
Reading they say they have multiple warehouses and will send from the closest. They are based in Sydney. So I feel there may be no stock in QLD warehouse/s maybe.

            • @escorpse: Thanks for the info. You might be right that they have no stock in QLD at the moment.

              • +2

@rlytoasti: Just got a reply back. Yes they do not have stock in QLD unfortunately so not shipping here.

                • @escorpse: Hope we can get a similar or better deal for this TV from somewhere we can actually order in QLD.

  • +3

I have just got the C855 85inch last week! its great no lag at all ! and I got a very bright living room and it works perfectly there. No regrets so far !

  • -3

    is this laggy?

    • +2

      Read the comments

    • Have the same question as yours. From multiple comments above, it's not laggy.

  • What would be a better upgrade? Size vs picture quality?
My current tv is Sony 9500h 75 inches, can’t decide between C4 83 or TCL 855 98 inches.
Still waiting for them to drop below 5k.

    • all oled above 77 inches suck big time, go to avforums avsforums for the horrendous experience and screenshots

      c855 no doubt

  • Anyone running a 75 or bigger, sitting closer than 2.5-3m?

    • I’m running 75 at 3m, regret not getting 85 or bigger.

      • Good info. I think our couch is about 2.4, center would be probably 1.7 high as well.

  • I've got the 85 inch of this, absolutely fantastic TV. I've got an LG, and Samsung before this. This one is miles above.

  • Anyone knows that theres a chance they will price match ebay pricing for this TV at good guys, harvey norman ect?

  • I got the 75C845 for $1850 in January this year.

Not sure of the difference between the C855, but it's been a decent TV in the lounge.

Edit: ok it's got 3 x the dimming zones. meh a little less blooming in dark scenes and extra brightness is about all the difference there is

    • no, motion performance has improved greatly as well

and out of the box calibration

      • +2

Stop trying to rub it in dude. Can't you see I'm coping here?

        • ah ok haha sorry

hey I have a C745 as well in my bedroom and to this day I regret not buying the C845 :D

          • @CrazyTachikoma: I've got a C745 and after some basic adjustments, mainly reducing the level of judder correction in motion correction am super happy with the picture!

No regrets whatsoever, though I was really anxious before delivery whether it would be 'good enough' compared to the mini-LED models.

            • @pencilman: For sure, it's an amazing TV for the price. I've got it calibrated and it's more than enough for the bedroom.

It's just that the price difference to the 845 wasn't much, but since it was my first TCL I didn't want to spend that much.

  • Good for gaming?

  • bought, thanks OP

  • +4

Costco selling 85-inch TV for $2.5k. It seemed to be out of stock for the past few days but is now available again.

    https://www.costco.com.au/c/TCL-85-Inch-C855-Premium-QD-Mini…

    • The images on costco website show stand legs and also the single stand in the middle holding the tv up, does anyone know which one the 85" actually has?

    • Anyone knows if GG price matches costco?

      • +1

JB didn't but GG did, we just left the store.

        • Did you price match the 85"?
