[Steam, PC] Day of The Tentacle Remastered $4.30 @ Steam

380

No, is not that kind of tentacle game some of us may be more familiar with these days. It’s the remaster of the 1993 LucasArts / Ron Gilbert point and click adventure MASTERPIECE: Day of the Tentacle. Now slightly cheaper than it was earlier this year if you missed it.

Seamlessly swap between hd remaster and OG visuals, and audio.

I remember this taking me the better part of 2 weeks as a 13 year old trying to finish this. I could probably get through it now in my lunch break if I skip the maniac mansion game within a game part.

Metacritic score 86

Loved this game. Is there anything similar in game consoles (PS5)? Miss those games where you had to use your brain

Thimbleweed park is the spiritual successor apparently

Broken Age, the newest Monkey Island…

    • Miss those games where you had to use your brain

What’s that? Jk but I used to love Curse of Monkey Island and Runescape quests for that.

    • where you had to use your brain

theres a fine line between using your brain, and just questionable game design…im still salty as hell about lighthouse the dark being - so many wasted school holidays trying to get through it and always stuck (we didnt get internet at home till i was very late teens)- though i guess to be fair, i was 10 or so at the time and the intended audience was probably 16+

Can't rate this game highly enough - a true classic

  • As much as i liked Monkey Island, this is the Goat in my eyes.

    • It’s only beaten by curse of monkey island which unfortunately has not had a remaster

    Dare I ask?

  • it's also a similar price on the Playstation Store. replayed this over the weekend and it was lots of fun.

  • One of the best Lucas arts games ever made👍

Still remembered the first time I played it with speech pack. 🤯

Finished it on multiple times across pc to modern consoles including the one that installs using 3.5" floppy disk which most teens and kids wouldn't even know wht it is.

    Highly recommended!

    • I also remember playing the "talkie" version for the first time. It was on a very early CD-ROM drive, so the CD needed to go into a caddy before it could be inserted. Then it blew my mind that the entire game was voiced.

Also, I inexplicably remember: Address: 220, IRQ: 5, DMA: 1.

  • If anyone still has the Day of the Tentacle Triangle Box, it's going for about $2,500

    • I've was upset at my mother for throwing mine out in a clean-up 20 years ago. Now I can be more upset!

She flattened down and kept many other boxes, but the DOTT box was a weird shape, so it went in the bin while I was away on a trip. So I still somehow have the boxes for "Encarta '95" and "EA Sports Cricket '96", but not this one!

many many a school lunchtime was spent in the library on mindmaze.

        no food. no water.
just literally run from classroom on bell ring, to the library to secure 1 of 3 pcs.
        ah to be young again…

  • I feel like I could… Like I could…

    • … complete this sentence from the intro cinematic!

  • Can't go past the original game too .. Maniac Mansion. Such an awesome game in its day.

  • Have my upvote for the nostalgia
